Great question, mine are:

* Sinai battles in the Six Days War.
* Golan battle in 1973 (Tzvika force).
* The Invasion to Normandy on D-Day.
* The 100 Years War between England and France.

Thermopylae <----DEFINITELY #1 "Gates of Fire"

Cabantuan POW Rescue <---looks like it's going to be turned into a movie

Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988 <----possibly the most under-reported war(where I'm from at least) of the modern media age

"Frozen Chosen" Reservoir Korean War <---USMC & UK Royal Marines

Niagara Gold Recovery <----not a battle per se but it talkes place in a minefield, because the bulk of the UK's gold reserves were sunk in the middle of a German laid minefield in 400+ feet of water near New Zealand....the technology didn't exist to complete a Salvage Op and the gold was critically needed to fund the War effort...this is 1940...darkest days of the war and before US entry into the conflict...one of the best and least known stories I've ever heard.....inventing a more exciting story would be difficult

any epic production wull make me happy. these are my favorites:
-the russian front, WW2 (esecially stalingard and kursk)
-the egyptian invasion to sinai, 1973
-iran-iraq war, 80s
-first afghanistan war, 79-89
-Thakur ghar, afg. 2001

and one fictious: the cold war turns hot. my oh my, why cant they make a movie out of "red storm rising"?! think of the result...

The ideas about recent Special Forces deploments would be enjoyable if they were made into a film, but they would never be a great war film.

They are actually making a movie based on Gates Of Fire, remember reading George Clooney is the producer or some such ****. Lets hope Hollywood doesnt **** it up to bad.

Three U.S. soldiers who participated in the March 4 firefight in eastern Afghanistan that proved to be the deadliest day of the Afghan war for U.S. military personnel. They are: Staff Sgt Raymond M. DePouli, Pfc David Gilliam, and Spec. Aaron Totten-Lancaster.

Also, a better movie for the Invasion of Grenada to do our Special Ops men justice. And of course, the Invasion of Panama.

Gates of Fire?

If I remember correctly, that's the book about the battle of Thermopylae.

I had to laugh cause when I read the question that was the first battle I thought of, and then when I opened the thread that's the first one listed. I guess some of us think alike. :)

How about that big fight the SAS had somewhere in the middle east (Oman maybe) ? With the officer that later died when he tried to do the SAS training again...

1) Frozen Chosin the battle at the Chosin Resevoir could be interesting.
2) I lived the Iran -Iraq war for a year on Special Operations 87-88(prime chance/earnest will). There are some good stories from that period and a few interesting small firefights.
3) Me and Andyman but that would be a short film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is alot more to this story that will never be told and for good reason

Read Robin Moore's "The Hunt For Bin Laden." Pretty in depth account of what happened with personal opinions from some of the Green Berets about it.

Thermopolye is actually a movie called that. Its an older film but a good classic to watch nonetheless.

1. Khe San
2. Monte Cassino
3. Battle of Hastings

http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4361&highlight=prime+chanceGood job. I was on the Hercules barge. That big crane you see was named Clyde. That Boghammer that was sunk was pulled up after the SEA Bats sunk it. There were .50 cal on it and were serial #'d and I.D.'d as the ones that we had sold to the Iranians for hostages, hence the Iran/Contra scandal. Yep I was right in the middle of it.

I would like to see more fictional wars set on a place other than Earth fought by nations we've never heard of with the same technology level. Its called "Post Modern Science Fiction" kinda like Star Ship troopers...Im really tired of seeing stuff set on Earth, or based on politics that we are familiar with.

Screenwriters! use your damned imaginations!
