i've finished reading a week or so ago "Masters of Chaos" written by Linda Robinson. It's a good book, describing Special Forces post-Vietnam to modern times. The writing is fair with a lot of very good information and material, with some humor, though it's paced a little weird. Good book though since it describes a lot of things they're doing today that hasn't really been read or talked about.
"In the Company of Soldiers" by Rick Atkinson (who also wrote Pulitzer Prize winning "An Army at Dawn") is about the 101st preparing to deploy and their push into Iraq during the opening days and through the "End of Combat Operations" (or so declared by Bush). It's a good book that's set at point of view of the fighting from the Divisional Staff. It's very well written and describes the troubles faced by command staffs, and shows you how hard it really is to be up there, even though the higher ups are always ribbed by the grunts doing the fighting.
All in all, to keep it short "Masters of Chaos" details a lot of how the unconventional fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq went on, while "In the Company of Soldiers" shows how the conventional fighting in Iraq was like, and i recommend reading both these books to highlight the differences in the ways unconventional and conventional fighting went on.
