TAIWAN TO SUPPLY U.S. AMMO?

It's been an open secret for a while now that the U.S. military is running low on ammunition. But a new supplier may be emerging, if foreign press reports are accurate. America may start buying some of its bullets from Taiwan.

According to Taiwan's United Evening News, the Pentagon is preparing to buy 300 million rounds of 5.56mm caliber bullets, straight from Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense.

According to an unnamed top level military official, this marks the first time America has sought to purchase from the Taiwanese defense establishment. The official said that Taiwan seeks only to recover production costs on the deal, and that should any profit be made it would go towards factory expenses.

Production will take place at Plant 205 in Kaoshiung, which is part of the Ministry of National Defense’s Bureau of Armaments and Acquisition. The absence of large-scale military conflict in the Taiwan region over the past decades has led to surpluses and storage problems at this facility. The gradual decline in demand has resulted in Plant 205 operating at a fraction of capacity, so the deal with the Americans will be like a deluge after a long drought.

The deal could be refreshing to U.S. military planners, as well. The shortage of small-arms ammunition is so severe that, about a year ago,the Pentagon contracted with an Israeli firm to supply the bullets. But Congress wasn't exactly psyched about how Al-Jazeera might portray Jewish State ammo being used on Muslims in Iraq. Taiwanese rounds may be less explosive, politically.

Not gonna take sides on this idea of soaking bullets in pig's blood, rather I'll just post a (now well-known) historical reference.



Once in U.S. history an episode of Islamic terrorism was very quickly stopped. It happened in the Philippines about 1911, when Gen. John J. Pershing was in command of the garrison. There had been numerous Islamic terrorist attacks, so "Black Jack" told his boys to catch the perps and teach them a lesson.

Forced to dig their own graves, the terrorists were all tied to posts, execution style. The U.S. soldiers then brought in pigs and slaughtered them, rubbing their bullets in the blood and fat. Thus, the terrorists were terrorized; they saw that they would be contaminated with hogs' blood. This would mean that they could not enter Heaven, even if they died as terrorist martyrs.

All but one was shot, their bodies dumped into the grave, and the hog guts dumped atop the bodies. The lone survivor was allowed to escape back to the terrorist camp and tell his brethren what happened to the others. This brought a stop to terrorism in the Philippines for the next 50 years.

yes u guys have ur own ammo factories..... the defence department doesnt want to build more factories to supply ammo because they dont want a repeate of what happened after the cold war , tons of vacant ammo factories....

Apparently the guys at the pentagon/defence dept think this war on terror is going to be finished soon or something ??? while in fact this war is going to be going on for a long time if not forever.........

Its all about the hate, and the hate is there so yeah its gonna be a while....

I think what catches everyone by suprise is how much ammo is needed when you've every soldier armed with a fully auto weapon.I ( in the 70's we had quaint ideas that a soldier would go into action with 4x20 rd magazines and win a firefight. We scrubbed that idea after the Falklands ) . i suspect the US having to buy abroad is due to spending cutbacks - the Vietnam war probably had the US with massive stocks of ammo and these have simply been let to run low because it suited the bean counters to live off the "surplus". Result was that lots of production lines got shut down and the machinery sold off. Now when you need to give every soldier going into the combat zone a quick brush down of his weapons proficiency plus the rounds he's going to be letting off for real, it amounts to lots and lots of rounds a week. Bet you US production lines are burning the midnight oil right now.
