Do you guys think it would be useful to have a chatroom as well as the forums to chat to eachother on instead of waiting minutes sometimes hour and days to get replies?
Just a thought.
I think its actually a great idea, but it would be necessary to have a moderator present at all times to control flame wars and arguements. There is also such a wide variety of topics discussed that there would be a necessity for a main "lobby" with different sub topic chat rooms similar to different forum sections.

its a good idea my bet though is people would get "offended" and start flame wars...good idea but unfortuneatly i dont think it will fly :|

it's easier to keep some people in check with the forums... everything is saved, and you can always read things over when you are lost in the smoke of some topics.

Why dont we just post our MSN messenger accounts and have group chats with selected ppl?

thats a good idea thats why they have the option of peoples messengers along the bottom of the window
I remember using IRC to get my MP3s WAY back in the day before Napster and all of that. I still use it to get ****o sometimes or maybe software that would otherwise require purchasing. Wait, did I say that? I was just kidding guys someone told me you could use IRC for that

True that, lol.
I only have AOL IM though.
There's some software that's http based which is like IRC, but doesn't require people to run any special clients which won't work when you're in the office. Shouldn't be too hard to get it going.. ultimately what Seoulstriker said is what I've mentioned in the past. With people writing in from all over the globe with all the different time zones, having chat that's up when different people are kind of limits things. I'll see what I can do though.

Honestly Hood... I think it is a losing conquest.
Most of the fun is having such a broad base of people from all over the globe. Whether it is pulling expertise from all the worlds armies about equip and tech.. or just plain flaming each others views... the diversity of the postings are what rocks. I think we can pull our own chat rooms using IRC or those likes for the small clicks that wanna chat it up freestile. But if you got the skills to put all that diversity into real time... I need to buy you some brew. woot

I second that! Good call Tane.
Thanks Hood. Flames aside I think a lot of good stuff comes out of this site. For those that keep us informed with facts from all over the world as well as those that need the education, this is a great service to all the soldiers of the world.

I <3 Hood.
Me and IDFM203 discussed this in a differnt thread. And yes it would be a good idea. You can host a mIRC chatroom via a java applet.
AOL/MSN is nice but you can't get all the mebers involved.

If there's an easy way for you to attach a chatroom to the forum, I think it's a neat idea. There's one for another forum that I go to that's completely unmoderated (unlike the forum), enter at your own risk, and it works really well. Generally a good time for all.
as long as it wud only be secondary to the forum it wud be fine to me...though it has its minors like everything being 'time-zone-influenced'
See this topic about the chatroom:
