For all you with access to BBC1 tonight, Hunting Chris Ryan starts at nine. Looks good, each episode is a different terrain and continent etc, and in the siberia one he was 45 mins from death apparently.
Happy viewing...

I think I'll give it a miss.
The recent series about the history of the SAS on Channel 4 was very good though. Those old guys will NEVER adjust to civvy street!

Over here we have almost every Western European public channel on cable: German, Dutch, French, British, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Luxembourg, plus some American stuff like CNN, Cartoon Network, History Channel, TCM, ...
Great for learning languages.

I watched Hunting Chris Ryan (ok I admit it). It was alright, generally not much happened though. They spent ages tracking him through the jungle, they all succumbed to heat exhaustion and had to extracted, then they didn't catch him at the end.
The Hunter Force consisted of an ex-Royal Marines Colour Sergeant, an ex-Parachute Regiment Pathfinder Platoon Corporal, and two ex-US Navy SEAL operators. One of the SEALs was so knocked for six by the heat that at one point he had to be taken out of the operation completely so he could recover.
The final ambush took place on a beach, with the Hunters patrolling the shoreline. Ryan was hidden in the brush nearby and sprinted across the shore to a waiting speedboat. Despite being pursued, they didn't catch him.

I also saw the 1st part of "Hunting Chris Ryan Series" based in the Jungles of Honduras. Chris Ryan's E&E survival trek during the 1991 Gulf War was truly an amazing feet of endurance and will to not give up. He showed this during the programme yesterday on BBC 1 while being hunted by an extremely experienced hunter force. He made it very difficult for the hunter force to follow his trail by using the river for deception and the setting up of 2 ****y traps (one being a shovel cover which was attached to a smoke ****y trap (in this case smoke greandes were used) and secondly a trip wire ****y trap in which the Parachute Regiment Pathfinder Platoon Corporal tripped the ****y trap and would have wiped out most of the team if been a real fragmentation or white phos grenade. Chris used the river by crossing it then re-crossing again to throw the hunter force off his trail which actually worked. However, one of the Navy SEALs thought he had done this despite the rest of the team disagreeing. The majority won and they went off in the wrong direction...(NICE ONE CHRIS).
It was funny when the hunter force was picked up by a heli and was supposed to be dropped close to Ryan but for some strange reason the heli dropped them in the totally wrong place in dense marsh which totally took its toll on the hunter force espeically one of the Navy SEALs who was suffering of heat exhaustion and his feet were on the way to having "trench foot". The hunter force got rest change of clothes etc while Chris was still out there in the middle of a hell hole trying to survive and evade capture.
Chris reached his PUP and waited for his ride out. THe hunter force were really close...searching the beach for him....However they missed him and the boat slipped in and he made a dash into the water and was picked up. Pretty good going!!!.
Will be interesting to see how he does in the other environments. The Arctic episode looks the worst to me.

i thought it was pretty good, the fact that he must have a camera team crashing thru the jungle after him must make it a bit tricky though! In the beginning of the show they commented on how the camera team only hooks up with him periodically, so when he was apparently '45 mins from death' he must have been on his own. Probably just hyped up to make though...
You have to ask yourself some production related questions when watching a show like this; like what happens to the camera crews, if all the guys (the hunted and hunters) are pros at survival and endurance, then what are the crews like? Makes good TV, but always stay one step ahead in being objective..
BBC 1 and 2 are pretty good, ITV is ****e 98% of the time and Channel 4 is pretty good too. Channel 5 is cheap and nasty most of the time, but i don't get it due to crap reception in my area!

When I saw the bearded ex-SEAL, I thought it was the ugliest man I've ever seen. And then he put on his ridiculous red sunglasses :D
It was entertaining, nothing more, nothing less.

Could had use him in Afghanistan, he'd look just like an Afghan or Bin Laden himself!

thought it was pretty good but to be fair to the ex seal none of them had time for acclimitisation. Being dumped in the swamp must'nt have been a load of fun.

I thought it was the biggest pile of turd I've witnessed in some time. Noise discipline, spaceing and the old boy SEAL smoking during patrolling was just too much. Plus why was Ryan wearing his bergen? He would have ditched it once he'd been compromised and worked off his webbing and belt kit. Ryan's a lying prick anyway- see how long he'd last if he rocked up at Credenhill these days...

Thought "Hunting Chris Ryan" was entertaining. It wasn't informative as other 'SAS jungle' type things have been. I think some element/insight into tracking should have been included (I know the guys made some comments) but there should have been some guys at a location with 'staged' signs to educate people and make it more interesting. Some info on E&E tactics and nav would have been good. I would think that most people watching this would think E&E was all about running as fast as you can away from where you were!
Take your points about the graphics, that's the way the BBC etc is going now. Everything has to be 'sexed up' in order to be interesting, well that's what the BBC has told me to think today as I am unable to think on my own. ;)
That's where Ray Mears was good. Simple, to the point, with just a few re-constructions to give a feel for the event. The material covered and the stories are so good they could carry themselves.
This is to the army what Lord Winston's programmes are to medicine. (Perhaps not that bad, I really can't stand that man; Maybe 'what Linda Barker is to Joinery' would be better!)
Chops:
Dude, it wasn't that bad. Besides, he wasn't about to ditch his bergen as that would lose the equipment he was sent in to pick up. It was a bit of fun, that's all. As for the lying prick bit, i don't know about that but a few people that 'he is known to' have illuded to as much!
:D

BTW, Seoulstriker, if you want to know what I mean about Lord Winston, try and find some of his shows.
All mouth and no trousers that man. It annoys me that he is so acclaimed, his shows are full of **** and padding, and by all accounts he's a bit of a knob.
Sorry all, nothing to do with the thread, I know!
