hello everybody,

I have a video card question andI figure some of you guys have to be armchair commandos p-) , right now in my computer i have an msi gf4 ti4400 from back in the day when they just came out. I think it's still working pretty good, for all the new games that have come out since, although I do worry if its going to be able to handle ghost recon 2, battlfield 2, CC first to fight, and splinter cell 3. However I just bought (online) a geforce 6600gt AGP for a steal I thought at 187.00 it was 25% off. I was just wondering you guys' opinions. Was that a smart buy, I mean will there actually be an appreciable difference in the performance of the 2 cards???

Just some other relevant info.
Soyo dragon 400 platinum
amdxp 2400
768mb ram ddr 333(i think thats right)

OHHHH yea...since im here, will upgrading my processor to amd 64 3200 really see a difference in performance since both my cpu and that one are both clocked at 2ghz(yea i know i have to upgrade motherboard)?

I just upgraded from a GF4 Ti4400 to a GF6800GT. In my opinion, the Ti4400 is a great card, but it's quickly fallen pretty far below the curve. Its shader, texturing, and other capabilities are way behind those of the new Radeons and GeForce cards. You'd be able to play new games with it, but you'll really have to tone down the graphics and as such, wouldn't really be able to appreciate their beauty at their best. So, basically, I'd say that the 6600GT is probably a good investment. I don't know how it compares to the 6800GT, but the card I have is simply incredible. Whatever the case, I think it's very safe to say that you'll see a significant performance improvement between the Ti4400 and 6600GT.

Yes you definitely got a good buy off that. And yes you'll notice significant play quality between the two. I just recently went from a geforce 4 (440)MX to an ATI 9600XT. Big differences are noted. And the increase is nice. But I switched to ATI recently because to get the same card specs from nVidia would have cost nearly 30+ more $

The 6600GT performs about the same as vanilla 6800
