Exactly!

We'd rather wait six months to eternity to legally buy a cinema ticket for a movie which has already been released on DVD elsewhere which we can order for 13,99 via CD-Wow.com, which is basically what we'd spend on popcorn, softdrinks and the ticket.....duh.....or we'd utilize the power of Bittorrent.

You'd think the whole movie industry would come up with the striking idea that their time-shift business model is a bit counterproductive... :bash:

The diary is pretty moving too. To read the transformation of the troops is very Vietnam-ish.

Wilf for President! Just saw the film tonight at the San Francisco screening. Do yourself a favor and see this film. As much as I enjoyed Gunners Palace, I can't see it going into wide release. Your best bet for seeing it will probablly be on the screening tour. Check the website for free ticket info and screening dates. The directors name is Micheal Tucker and he is also on the tour. In SF he did about 45 minutes of Q & A after the film. Definitely one cool mofo. Watching the movie I really got the impression he was ****ting his pants most the time. Very cool movie and if you don't see it you will be missing out.

I would definitely attend if they were making a stop in Oregon. Hopefully it will make it back over here in a wider release.

I would definitely attend if they were making a stop in Oregon. Hopefully it will make it back over here in a wider release.Don't count on it. The head count at the SF screening was pretty light (God damm hippies). Whoever is distribuing the film had to notice. That's bad news for a wider release. Gunners Palace is not Fahrenheit 911, this aint an election year, and the movie feels way too unpolished and raw to be anything but an arthouse movie that isn't playing where you live. Films like this just don't fill seats (American ****hheads have ADD) which makes for a very limited release. Not the end of the world, but pretty **** ing gay when you look at the piece of **** movies playing at your local multiplex.

I guess there's always DVD. Unfortunatly only the good movies like Gunner Palace and Operation Red Flag will be getting limited release accross the country.

Looks good.

I like the bit of the trailer where the soldier is showing off the Hummer "this will make sure the shrapnel stays in your body instead of passing straight through!"

Nice to hear the soldiers side instead of the politicians and observers.

Sounds good.. the screening comes the nearest city to me close to when it's supposed to be in regular theaters anyway, so the advanced thing doesn't help me much.

well for those interested i saw the movie and i was not disappointed with it i got to talk to the director and even one of the stars of the film. :D gunner palace does a very good job at driving away from the Hollywood stereotype and shows a reality and when it says no bs in the trailer it isn't lying. there is not a lot of action, the opening does show a little gun battle with dyncorp contractors though but it mainly focuses on the daily routine of the unit on various missions whether it be raids (which there is a lot of), routine patrols, psyops missions, helping at the hospital etc.. for someone like myself it was nice to see how the situation is there, it showed how they will go into one sector and they will be welcomed by the children and people and go into the one adjacent to it and be met with hostility and rock throwing from the kids. input comes from Iraqis as well and really shows that many Iraqis are working hard and (shown in the film at times dying) to help do what they think is best for their country. the director Mike Tucker asks political and emotional questions of those involved in the film while keeping his own thoughts in the movie and in real life separate so as not to effect and bring a political bias into play. Sergeant Wilf the soldier who was in the theater since he is from Colorado added a lot of humor to the movie and really shows that comedy is a great weapon to combat a stressful situation, as is seen in the trailer they will take a depressing issue and turn it into something they can all laugh about. overall it was a fantastic movie and if anyone has any questions about it i will try to answer them as best as i can hope you all enjoy :D
