View Full Version : Are Neconservatives true Republicans?
The definition of neoconservatism has been hotly debated in recent years as the neocon camp has grown in numbers and influence. One of the movement's fathers, Irving Kristol, once defined it — in contrast to traditional conservatism — as "forward-looking, not nostalgic … cheerful, not grim." In domestic affairs, he wrote, neocons tend to accept the need for a strong federal government, not a weak one.
Is it just me or has there been another major shift in Republican and Democratic goals. It seems that the Democratic Party is now the one defending our liberty/freedom and the Constitution over the tyranny of the federal government while the necon "Republicans" favor bigger government to push thier radical right wing evil agenda and tmaper with the Consitution and American's privacy and rights...................
I also find it odd that many of the people who voted for Bush tend to be anti federal govnt hicks and yet under the facist pig Bush the federal government has grown more than at virtually any other point in America's history. It has grown in sheer size of people employed by the feds, it has grown in its power over the people as in new rights to spy on Americans, detain Americans, and otherwise restrict freedom, and it has grown exponentially in budget which Bush tries to hide by simply giving a huge tac cut and letting the deficit baloon more and more by the hour........something a more responsible American president will have to address in the future.....and something Americans will have to face sooner or later as well.
What the hell ever happend to the real Republicans and when will they make a stand against this ideological idiocy called neoconservativism???

Just heard Warner Brothers is going to make a Babylon 5 feature film, "Memory of Shadow," or something like that.
There is also rumor that there will be a live-action Transformer movie in the work.

I liked Babylon 5, but after it switched channels for the last season it seemed like something was missing. I probably wouldn't go see a movie of it or the transformer movie either.

I think OBD has made a very good point! In fact, there are a lot of conservatives who weren't comfortable with Kerry, but couldn't stomach the direction Bush and his neoconservative advisors and staff are taking the country.
As for myself, I used to be able to engage in intelligent debate with people whose views differed from my own, until recently. Nowadays, you can't question the war in Iraq without being accused of being a "spineless liberal", our support for Israel's policies without being accused of anti-semitism, or criticize the Patriot Act without someone saying you lack the will for the "war on terrorism".
On the liberal side, if you argue in support of the 2nd Ammendment, you are called "a gun nut" by the Michael Moore-type idiots.
I have a difficult time supporting any politician, Republican or Democrat, who wants to use our military for purposes that are not essential to the defense of our nation. I will also resist any politician who wants to use his position of power to weaken our liberties, whether they be the right to own an AK, read the book of our choice, or not have Christianity shoved down our throats.

That's cause JMS' original story was written only for 4 seasons. There was not supposed to be a 5th season which, although had some of the best CGI and individual stories of the series, didn't have that feeling of contributing to an overall story-arc like seasons 1-4 did.
A motion picture would be cool. Something in the past perhaps? The Great War?
ROFLMAO!!!!
Im sensing a pattern developing here.
Flagg, your great. Love the thread hijack tactics!!! hahaha. Babylon 5 sucked by the way!

6. Don't hijack a good conversation thread with an off-topic political or flame war. Posts of this nature will be deleted from now on.
It's quite amusing how all you smart guys have to resort to breaking rules instead of formulating a counter argument.
How pathetic...

To be honest...I'm tired of reading obd's brain numbing and irrelevent posts.
I'm only doing it as a public service since reading obd's posts are guaranteed to make the reader stupider.
Maybe do some research on how many and how often obd has violated forum rules. If you had a dime for every time you'd be a rick man ;)

form a counter argument to obd's opinion? Why? He's too stubborn to admit that someone else might be right, and most of us "smart guys" (I assume I was lumped in there) are too stubborn to admit he might be right. It'll go page after page and degrade into childish personal insults and at the end we'll still have his opinion opposite "ours". It would be pointless.

Key word, "GOOD."
A "good conversation" about B5, Starblazer and Transformer is in the process.
You can't "counter argument" unless you got an argument in the first place to counter...replying to obd would be counter ranting.

No I've never seen Babylon 5. I'm already hooked on Enterprise and Battlestar Galactica. I can't work anymore SciFi in. I'm starting a new semester tomorrow -- 5 classes. I have an option to drop one, but they all are very interesting. So my posting here will have to cut back a bit...I know, dry your tears.

Enterprise is the worst of Trek. Berman and Braga suck as producers. BG is pretty awesome though :)

Actually, JMS wrote Babylon 5 to be exactly 5 seasons (which is really one of the great things about the series, is that it was all planned out from the beginning as opposed to the figure-it-out-as-we-go-along way that Star Trek is done). What happened was that during the 4th season, the show was at high risk of being canceled. As a result, JMS decided to compress the real important parts of season 5 into season 4 and wrapping up the season 4 storylines much quicker (i.e., the war against the Shadows would have been much longer and the Earth Civil War would have been during season 5). Kind of a shame really, because season 4 really appears rushed and season 5 just doesn't match the others in terms of quality.
As for the movie, I heard somewhere that it was going to be taking place after the series, but I'm not sure whether it would be like around the time of Crusade or after Sheridan's death or what. Personally, I think that if they were to do something about the Earth-Minbari War, not even necessary involving the original characters, that would be awesome. The "In the Beginning" TV movie was awesome...some of the scenes sent chills down my spine.

IMO, the neocons are not conservatives in the traditional sense. They are not fiscally conservative, that's for sure. They are not strong federalists, another stike against their "conservativeness". And nation-building interventionists (without a clue).
I used to disagree with Bush Sr on most topics, but I always had a respect for his vision, which was based on broad platform. Dubya et al, on the other hand, make me ill. I find their policies poorly reasoned and in the best interest of VERY few. They have dumbed down every discussion they have ever enjoined - to ask questions would only uncover the absurdity of their positions. They are bad for "America" and they are bad for the world.
