I believe the idea is to cover their faces - A natural disguise. Also helps them look older, and less threatening. Throw on a local dish-dash and he might look like an iraqi goat herder from 10 paces :)

Van, I must have forgotten to mention this is a special forces soldier in Afghanistan. The soldiers in special forces wear beards to fit in with the locals. They commend more respect if they carry the custom of long beards, hence you are a real man if you have a beard. (Others may have a better explenation for you, that's just mine.)

Thanks man. The goggles came from 21st Century Toys Navy Seal Mountain ops figure and the head is a BBI Mendez w/sculpted beard.
