WASHINGTON, Oct. 29, 2003 * Two soldiers were killed and one was wounded Oct.
28 when their Abrams main battle tank struck a land mine or a roadside improvised

The men were members of the 4th Infantry
Division [http://www.hood.army.mil/4id/]. The attack occurred about 40 miles northeast of the city of
Balad.
DoD officials said it was the first main battle tank disabled since the end of
major combat May 1.
News reports said that seven Ukrainian troops were wounded in the first ambush
targeting members of the Multinational Division Central-South. Based in Hillah,
the Polish-led division has soldiers from 19 countries.
A multinational division spokesman said the division soldiers have been
involved in firefights before, but this was the first one in which they
suffered casualties. The incident occurred when mines disabled two armored
personnel carriers. When the Ukrainian troops left the vehicle, they were fired
upon. There were no reports of enemy casualties, the multinational division
spokesman said.
A 1st Armored Division [http://www.1ad.army.mil/] soldier was killed
and six were wounded in a rocket-propelled grenade attack in Baghdad Oct. 27.
No details were available on the attack.
The casualty figures from an Oct. 28 car bombing in Fallujah have been set at
four dead and two wounded. Coalition officials said the bomber was unable to
get past security at the local police station or near the mayor's office, and
chose to detonate the car bomb about midway between the two facilities.
Coalition officials said the uptick in attacks has operations planners
assessing and reassessing the security situation throughout the country.
Names of U.S. casualties are being withheld until families are notified.
