DUBAI (*******) - A little-known Iraqi insurgent group said on Tuesday it was holding a U.S. soldier and threatened to kill him within 72 hours if Iraqi prisoners were not released, according to an Internet statement.
"Our mujahideen ... have managed to capture the American soldier John Adam after killing a number of his colleagues," said the Mujahideen Squadrons in the undated statement.
It carried a picture appearing to show a U.S. soldier sitting in front of a black banner with a rifle pointed at his head. The authenticity of the claim, which did not say where the man was seized, could not be verified.
"We will cut his throat in 72 hours if our male and female prisoners in the occupation jails are not released," it said.
A group using the same name, Mujahideen Squadrons, last month claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of a Brazilian engineer in Iraq (news - web sites).
Insurgents in Iraq, including al Qaeda's wing in Iraq, have been waging attacks on U.S.-led forces since they invaded the country in 2003.

Could be true, but i am very doubtful. I doubt a US soldier would let himself get captured after seeing the beheading movies, i think they would rather die fighting.

This looks like one of those 1/6 military figures...lol I hope that is what it is and that this is not true. Sometimes, if they were using one of those really cheapie digital cameras the pictures do come out barely viewable and with a sort of funny glaze on the things, so I hope that is not what this group is doing. If so I hope that our intel can find him than those retard terrorists will each have two bullets in their head....

military analyst James Marks
Marks, a retired Army general, said he has several questions about the photograph's authenticity.
A flak jacket the man is wearing in the picture has an unfamiliar kind of piping or trim along its edges, Marks said. The man's open-legged pants, as opposed to gathered hems, seem odd, he said.
Marks also questioned what appeared to be camouflage paint on the man's face. "We have not used camo paint with conventional forces serving in Iraq," Marks said.

U.S. Military: No Soldier Missing in Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The U.S. military said Tuesday that no American soldiers have been reported missing in Iraq after a Web statement claimed that an American soldier had been taken hostage.
The authenticity of the statement and photo could not be verified, and Staff Sgt. Nick Minecci of the U.S. military's press office in Baghdad said "no units have reported anyone missing."
The posting, on a Web site that frequently carries militants' statements, included a photo of what that statement said was an American soldier, wearing desert fatigues and seated on a concrete floor with his hands tied behind his back.
But questions were raised about the authenticity of a photo purporting to show a hostage with a gun to his head. The figure in the photo appeared stiff and expressionless.
Liam Cusack, of the toy manufacturer Dragon Models USA, inc., said the image of the soldier portrayed in the photo bore a striking resemblance to a military action figure made by the company.

The rifle pointing at his head looks similar to an M-16 except for some glarringly obvious mistakes.
1) The US Military does not paint their M-16's in a camoflauged pattern, or any pattern, or even with any paint! They remain "blued" with a sort of teflon like coating which ranges from black to dark grey, and unless it is brand-new, this coating would be worn off on the edges of the aluminum parts, leaving a "white" metal look.
2) The M-16 does not have a stick handle poking out of the middle of the forward hand guard, not at 90 degrees or at any other angle.

This combination shows an image, left, posted on an Iraqi militant Web site on Tuesday Feb. 1, 2005 and an image provided by toy manufacturer Dragon Models USA of an action figure named ' Cody' in a box. The Web site posted the photograph of what it claimed was a kidnapped U.S. soldier, but doubts were quickly raised about its authenticity and the U.S. military said no soldiers were missing. Dragon Models USA, said the figure in the photo resembled one of its military action figures originally produced for sale at U.S. bases in Kuwait. (AP Photo/Dragon Models USA, HO)

My thoughts exactly! Almost every single news site I visited today had this (albeit not a breaking news headline) on their site. This trash should have never seen the light of day because it was so piss-poorly done! You and I know that, but the media totally WANTED to believe there was a captured soldier or marine so they can keep the "Iraqi Quagmire" story fresh...
Pitiful this got the attention it did, this deserves one big "BAH".
Just goes to show that even the biggest news outlets sometimes need to be taken by the hand and guided to the truth even if the truth is obvious.

2) The M-16 does not have a stick handle poking out of the middle of the forward hand guard, not at 90 degrees or at any other angle.
jesus mother humpin cripes, your post amazingly is more stupid than the original picture.
please die. :bash:
Yeah I think that was a bit unnecessary, but anyway.

I just thought it was wierd that there was no video(they alwasy have f'in videos), they didn't give a rank with the name, and the fact that the m4 is painted/RIS setup would say special forces to me...and there is not a chance of a snowball in hell that a special forces soldier from any respectable country would give up and surrender if their comrades had been killed. I don't see it happening.
I was relieved but also scared when I saw the pic, becuase I thought there is no way that they would be stupid/desperate enough to do that. Do they think the US just sends over a gagglef*ck of soldiers saying comeback if you can...no!!!! ofcourse not, we have accountablility for our troops, it shouldn't have taken more than 72 minutes for a big "FU*CK YOU!" response to have been posted to their demands.

This pic is so fake, so is britian plane crashed story. About captured pic, no insurgents in it, arent they shy people, they can use a ****ing mask and stand front the pictures! Maybe they cannot afford a decent mask because they are a low budge terror group. Even the hands arent not showed while they were holding weapon for the pictures. About Britian plane crashed story, the first official said that they dont know what s cause and eventually terrorists were thirlled and had a great opportunity to make a fake video. When you see the video that shows missile is flying, it s gone (without show an actual missile that hits the plane), and later found a derbis of plane on the ground. It looks like it has been edited.

If only it had been released at the right time it would have been on the cover of the New York Times which would have made my life complete.

But this dude might be a deserter wannabe that made a fake scene then he could get away from US's military and live somewhere in Iraq after a fake terrorists group clamed that he has been beheaded.

Callous,
if I hadn't seen the thread here, I never would've sent it in to Drudge. This site needs the props for seeing through this. I emailed him the link, maybe next time he will check this place out first for some QUALIFIED opinions about certain topics and stories.
