I finally got time to take some pics of my newest firearm addition. It's an ArmaLite M15A4 CB, 11.5" barrel. What you see mounted on it: M203 airsoft receiver, firing components replaced, can fire primers or electrical based grenades or fireworks (like the one in my video (http://www.likestuff.com/guns/videos/m203/m203clean.wmv)). The AN/PEQ-2 is also an airsoft cheapie, with a custom 25mw green laser added (it's primary purpose is to hold the 6v battery for the electrical firing system in the M203, but the lasers work sweet too). The pressure pad (along with a few others I tried) didn't have enough current capability to power the 25mw green laser to full brightness (as well as there wasn't a good place to mount it), so I ditched it and went with an easy push button switch on the back. The switch powers both lasers and arms the electrical system of the M203. Works sweet... The M203 is bolted to a steel bar inside the handguard in three places, the AN/PEQ-2 is also bolted to the handguard in two places. Each laser has its own windage and elevation adjustments and has held zero perfectly through some rough abuse.

What are the SBR (Short Barreled Rifle; defined in the US as a rifle with a barrel shorter then 16") rules in Canada? Are their length restrictions?

Absolutely no barrel length restrictions on your AR15 up here in Kanada, which is nice. My friend has a 7.75" barreled AR15. The AR family of rifles are considered evil (restricted) here, which means you can ONLY shoot them at an approved firing range, you need a temp permit to move it off your property, etc., and there are stricter storage and transportation requirements then normal rifles.

You know what,
the idea is funny. And different. You're kind of going "backwards", and I like that (I can only have Airsoft for now).

*only* thing I'd do if I were you, I'd get a RIS unit. A Knight's one. Your Airsoft M203 and the PEQ should fit just fine.

It's only on safe when there's a round in the chamber :)

I tried a Knights RIS unit at the local gun store, got it all installed. The AN/PEQ-2 sat up just a bit too high, and blocked me from using the stock sights.
The M203 sat just a tad too low and wouldn't allow the trigger guard loop to hook onto the magazine well.

It's ok, a little extra work and they work sweet.

I also LOVE the look of the stock handguard... I think the four rail handguards are a little ugly.

The thing fired in the video is called a "Thunder King 2000" which is the most powerful salute (read: flash bang) firework a consumer can buy. You simply rip out the wick, stick in an electric match (or make your own electric match), run the wires to the bottom, and you're done. You can drop it down the barrel with the trigger held down and it'll fire like a mortor, or wrap a few wrappes of electrical tape so it fits snug, either slide it down the barrel or chamber it normally, and pull the trigger, boom.

Lots of videos coming soon. I'm getting a new camcorder. Yay woot

Thanks for all the great comments folks!

not sure what you mean Memph; but you only grandfather prohibited weapons. It is not prohibited so you can just go out and buy one if you have your pal.

At night you can see the beam very easily, not good for night sniping. During the day it's pretty hard to see the beam.

http://www.toysareforboys.com/hksl8/P1010013.JPG

That's a 23mw laser, my new AR15 laser is slightly more powerful at 26mw.

When you see the beams in the movies, they are probably using special lens filters to make it show up.

There is a 30 day MINIMUM waiting period.

If you just mailed it in a regular envelope, and didn't do anything special, expect 2 to 4 months.

I got mine in 31 days because my instructor told us how to mail it to make the application go through super fast.

I believe the "real" AN/PEQ-2 has a red laser on the right side, and an Infrared laser (invisable) on the other (for use with NV gear, target marking, etc). My AN/PEQ-2 already had a (****ty) red laser on the one side, and an empty spot where the IR laser was supposed to be on the other side, so I ordered a custom high power green laser to go in there (figured I should make it useful, as the red laser was crap, especially in daylight).

Some people think so. Basically, if the airsoft version looks very close to the real thing, it can be considered a replica, which are Prohibited (illegal). But, an airsoft M203 isn't illegal, because it doesn't look like a real gun. Real M203's are not considered guns up here, anymore then my potato gun is.

Sounds good. You're supposed to be able to check your firearm application status on the CFC website at http://www.cfc-ccaf.gc.ca/online-en_ligne/status/default_e.asp

It helps to draw a purple line across the bottom of the envelope. This is done by a company submiting your application for employment purposes (like Brinks, etc.). Helps to speed it along a bit.

Yeah, I was looking at the ANGS, but at twice the price, not including a laser, and not at all easily customizable (not to mention that two places said my custom 6v battery would not fit in the ANGS), I went for the crappier ICS AN/PEQ-2. It turned out great, so I wouldn't change a thing. Everything just barely fits in there.

I havn't had the chance to get my hands on powerful red lasers yet, but I may consider putting in a 25mw red laser to match the green one.
I think it has something to do with the wavelength more then the power, why it has a visable beam or not. I could be wrong of course, as this stuff is a bit above my knowledge. All I know is a 25mw green is easily visable in bright daylight out to 600yards (with a scope). Really I should have them on a seperate switch (easy enuff), red for night time, green for daytime.

This is a noob question but i am still young and have alot to learn. What is the round thing that is popping out around the top left of the gun. I have seen all the time and have always wondered wat it does. Do you pull it, twist it, or push it?

That would be the Forward Assist charge, it pushes a round out of the gun if it jams, and if thats not what your talking about, the other cirlce is for adjusting your sights.

The funny round thing is called the forward assist. You push it froward and it helps the bolt close in case a round isn't fully chambered.

For inforamtion about the gun course and your firearms license visit www.guns.to

Once you finish your tests and exams, it takes a few months to get your firearms license then you can trot down to your local gun store and purchase your AR15 and it will take anywhere from a few days to two weeks for the paper work to come in so you can take it home and cuddle with it.

Keep in mind that you'll have to do the restricted tests and get your restricted license to purchase hand guns, AR15s and other short barreled semi auto riffles.

TOYS: Was the tests and exams hard?

toysareforboys
02-04-2005, 06:38 PM
There were lots of people in my class that failed the "Hands on" part of the exam. Nobody failed the written parts (it's all outa the two books).

During the pratical tests, they tried to trick us. They would put some ammo in front of the muzzle of say one of the handguns, and ask you to load the magazine. If you reached in front of the gun to pickup the ammo, you instantly failed the entire course. You can not point a gun at yourself, ANY body part, EXCEPT when looking down the barrel to make sure it is free of obstructions. You must move the handgun away from the ammo, then pickup and load the ammo. They usually put out three or four rounds of ammo, and they all look identical, but one of the rounds isn't for that gun. You must check the headstamp on each round before loading it in the magazine or quite a few marks will be deducted.

The only other tricky part was passing the shotgun under the fence. They are picky about how far you walk down the fence, that you keep the gun pointed in a very safe direction while unloading it, setting it down, sliding it under, picking it back up, running through the PROVE and ACTS stuff, then reloading it. A lot of people lost marks for swinging the shotgun around while flipping it upside down to load the shells in the bottom, or after they picked it back up just re-loaded it without running through the ACTS and PROVE stuff. It works good to say each step out loud and do them slowly. They marked me for not checking the chamber in a handgun, when in fact I did, because I looked to make sure there was no magazine and combined it with the chamber check, I did it so fast, they thought I didn't check the chamber.

Other then those few things, it wasn't very difficult. I'm sure every examiner is different, so who knows.

I aced everything, I was the last person to do the hands on test, so everyone who failed or lost marks before me told me what they had done wrong. :D

I had lots of gas-blow-back airsoft toys (http://www.toysareforboys.com/airsoft2/My%20case%20of%20QCB%20toys.jpg) for quite a while, modified all of them to fire full auto (http://www.toysareforboys.com/airsoft2/Duster%20Gas%20-%20KJW%20Beretta%20M9%20Full%20Metal%20-%2019%20rounds%20per%20second,%20or%201140%20RPM!.avi), so got lots of good info about how guns work in general. It worked great for the tests because I was very comfortable handling rifles and handguns.
I like to modify everything I own (cars, guns) to personalize them, trick them out, etc, so I gain quite a bit of knowledge about them when I rip them apart.

I have yet to ever use a forward assist, I figure of it dosent go into the chamber the first time It's best just charging a new round.

Thanks for the info!! Definitly check it out, and yep. Thats me from the Army.ca forums, my recruitment is in limbo right now as I'm taken a math course. Failed the CFAT back in Sept. because I bombed my math and they requested me to come back Jan (taken till April) to redo it. So since then I've just decided to take up wrestling to keep me in shape.

Interesting combination.

Do you have an Armalite-brand carry handle atop it? If so, what are the aperture sizes? I think I got a National Match one on accident. (Mr. Dremel solved that though!)

Cool ****. I can't believe the Canadians have more firearms freedoms than me! Oh wait I can it's Kommiefornia.... :| :(

The carry handle did come with it from Armalite, so I figure it's an Armalite carry handle.

How do I tell the aperture sizes? lol.

I'm not as free as I'd like. I want to go plinking with my AR15, blow up some watermelons, but the law won't allow it. Gotta do it on a damn approved range.

Oh well, maybe one day.

What kind of green beam did you use? SK? Beamshot?

toysareforboys
02-10-2005, 10:02 AM
Beamshot and every other manufacturer did not produce a very high wattage Green Laser to my taste. I wanted something easily visable in bright sunlight at quite a distance, something at least 20mw.

The laser was manufactured by Z-Bolt http://www.z-bolt.com. It's the same size as a normal laser pen. If you send them an e-mail, and ask for something high wattage, they can produce anything upto 30mw for you. They will pick out the best components, super tweak the focus, and provide a quality product. I've gotten a few high wattage green lasers from them, they have lasted a long long time, through a lot of abuse (2,300 rounds on my HK SL8 (http://www.toysareforboys.com/hksl8/P1010077.jpg), while getting blasted (http://www.toysareforboys.com/hksl8/P1010092.JPG) by the gas block exhaust gas). Keep in mind that every pressure activation pad I've tried (including the one from zbolt), does not provide enough current to the laser for full brightness (the harder you press the pad, the brighter the dot, lol).

After I got the laser, I wanted an easy and accurate way to adjust the windage and elevation, so I took it to a local hobby place, they removed the guts from it, drilled and tapped three holes in it, re-installed the laser with a rubber o-ring and three set screws, and it works great.

If you want a short laser, you can cut the laser right after the activation button, and it's about 1.5" long. You can mount a remote battery pack somewhere else, and also solder the activation switch so it's shorted while you're in there.
