Kind of depends what you're looking for. Different attack helos have different attributes and capabilities. Longbow Apache, Super Cobra, Tiger, Black Shark, Comanche, all are superb attack helos.

I know, but it's still a functional attack helicopter even if it never went into service.

The Tiger is a Eurocopter and the Black Shark is the Russian Ka-50/52.

Actually, that makes me wonder how production of the Black Shark is coming along...Russia to resume serial production of Ka-50 helicopter in 2005
03-Dec-2004 17:49 GMT Source: Financial Times Limited
Moscow, 3 December: There are plans to resume the production of the Ka-50 Black Shark helicopter (NATO codename Hokum) in 2005, Russian air force commander-in-chief Vladimir Mikhaylov told Interfax-Military News Agency today.
"The air force did not spend a lot of assets for the development of the Black Shark to simply quit the project now. The air force deals with a variety of tasks and we require different helicopters to fulfil them. Therefore, we plan to resume the Ka-50 production in 2005," he said.
He noted that despite the very poor funding provided the sophistication of the chopper continued. "Those who saw video reports of the Rubezh-2004 exercise in Kyrgyzstan noticed the innovations in the aircraft exterior. It is premature to say now what these innovations mean, but I am sure that the air force will obtain new capabilities with the new solutions of the Kamov plant coming into service," he added. [Passage omitted]
Addressing the question, why the Ka-50 was not fielded after it had been adopted for service in 1995, Mikhaylov said: "It happened for reasons that have nothing to do with the air force proper."
"The economic crisis, the default and other difficulties reduced the already cut military budget considerably. The decision to focus on funding the research and development of the new chopper and modernizing the existing fleet was the only [one] possible for that time, in my opinion, as it allowed us to retain both the design bureaus and army aviation as a whole," he said.

In attack, I'd have to say the AH-64D.
Air to air, the KA-50.
Just my opinion.

Yea sorry I just didn't know the nicknames. How about the Mi-28 as a tank killer?

The Mi-28 is good, but not as good of a tank killer as the AH-64 or even cobra. It doesnt have that great of avionics...only the newer ones have all-weather capability.
Commanche is best hands down, but it was cancelled unfortunately.
Id say
1. AH-64D
2. AH-1Z
3. KA-52
4. Tiger
5. AH-64A
6. AH-1W
7. Mi-28

I don't really know about the Russian choppers or the Tiger very much, but the Longbow doesn't really have any advantages over the AH-1Z. The Zulu Cobra has the same engines, plus newer avionics, and will be given a mast-mounted radar by Longbow International, plus 80% commonality with the UH-1Y, plus the proven reliability of the Huey/Cobra design. But maybe I'm a bit biased. ;)

:| ......are you guys all retarded p-)? Clearly it is not a question about the actual mechanics of "the best combat helo", but more of a whos flying. A U.S. Marine helicopter pilot is the best attack helicopter system on the planet, hands down.
edit - since I actually just solved the mystery for all of you, the topic is pretty much over so i'll go ahead and lock it

Commanche is best hands down, but it was cancelled unfortunately.
You do realize the Commanche wasn't intended as an attack helo, but rather an armed scout to replace the Kiowa. ;)
Unless your definition of "attack helo" is a helicopter than can shoot missiles, which would then include the Huey and Blackhawk plus several others.

I would have to say the AH-64D with Longbow Tech. based on all of it's positive combat experience in OEF and OIF. This is not to say that some other countrys don't have some awesome attack helos, countrys like Russia, Germany, and even South Africa have sweet attack helos just to mention a few.

Attack is a pretty broad term and are the helicopters flying in groups or alone? Also who is at the stick? a 5yo or a 40yo with 20years of heli training?
