Ok Just got off the phone with my bro who is currently in Iraq right now with the 3rd ID. He told me his First Sarge managed to get him a Rail system and an EO Tech sight ( didnt specify which model)

Problem is, the only thing he can do with the EOtech is put it on the handguard rail which would put the sight in between the back and front sight. So he'd still have to line up the back and front sights, which kind of goes againts the whole point of having a holographic sight in the first place. Since he cant take off the carry handle on the A2 and wont be gettin an M4, or A4 any time soon, what do you all think would be the most effective way to implement such a great sight on the A2?

I suggested getting a carry handle mounted rail so he could mount the EOtech directly onto the carry handle and therefore not have to use the ironsights. This seems more effective than putting it between the ironsights. I have had no experience with this and am wondering if any of you have. again

what do you all think would be the most effective way to implement such a great sight on the A2?

thanx.

Eotech optics are not recomended for A2. he should use ACOG. btw the only way to mount an Eotech on A2 is to use ARMS 39 mount. Eotech on carry handle is too hight

edit: ask on ar15.com

Check out the first mount on this site: http://www.eotech-inc.com/lawe_mountingoptions.php
Make sure your Bro can still use his iron sights while the eotech is mounted. It's an electronic devise and it's mounted above a part of the rifle that can get rather hot when in use... Yes EOtech's break/fall off/switch off and batteries usually die when you need them.. Murphy is a MF'er.
Good luck to your Bro.

Not sure I understand what your objection is to having it mounted above the handguards. This is usually done so that you can co-witness with the iron sites. Being able to co-witness allows a fast transiton from Eo-tech to iron site in case the Eo fails. It also makes it easy to zero as the Eo is mounted parallel and close to the barrel. Simply aquire the proper sight picture through the M-16s smaller rear peep site and adjust the Eo until the dot is sitting on top of the front site post. This will get you very close to zero, fire a group and then adjust accordingly Look up BC-CAM or Beenie Cooley co-witness adjustable mount. I have an Eo-tech 511 mounted on a BC-CAM in this fashion its very fast and offers a wide field of view.

He will notice that cowitnessing will not be a slow as lining up the iron sights. He will shift his focus from drawing a bead to looking at the little red reticle, it will be faster. If not, he is still trying to align the sights and not just focusing in on the HWS.

On a A2 carry handle upper, you can use either Precision Reflex high ride gooseneck mount at around 180.00 or Bennie Cooley BC CAM gooseneck mount at about 125.00. Both mount will enable your EOTech to co-witness with the iron sight.

Hope this helps.

The EO tech can ABSOLUTELY be used effectively placed infront of the Carrying handle - between the handle and front sight. The EOtech even has a mount for an A2 carrying handle that will raise it slightly to offset the interference between sights. I have effectively used colt commando's in such manner - you may even see some of the GAU models the TACP's used employed in such manner.

Thank you for all the replies.

After reading the Whole EO-Tech FAQ guide on AR-15.com, i leared all about co-witnessing and have come to realize that my bros set up is pretty rock solid. Thanks for everyone's input. I can conclude from this that his set up is just fine and there probably isnt a more optimal configuration possible with his A2 and the EO-techs, im sure he will be happy to hear this.

I know this thread has been out there for a while. I just joined. Good information here. Looking forward to learning and sharing. I've been doing some research myself to put an EOTech on a M15A2. It's pretty much the same application. The Aimpoint has caught my eye as well. Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Hate when people bump old ass threads and I don't pay attention to the date.
