Hey got some questions i was wondering if someone could answer;
1. Heading out of Julien the other day going home i saw a Canadian patrol coming back in the other way. I noticed one of the LAVIII vehicle commanders wearing a Desert Auscam uniform and aus kit instead of Cadpat. I was wondering who this guy was? Any ideas?
2. Also a couple of days ago out driving i saw a civvy Landcruiser with some guys wearing British desert DPM cammies. This in itself isn't unusual, as the Brits here use quite a few of these, but what struck me was the guys having New Zealand flags on their arms. I've understood that NZ has a troop contribution to the PRT up and around Maz, but this is the first time i've seen them in Kabul. Again, any ideas?
3. Last, i saw some Mongolian troops the other day. Anyone know what type of contribution Mongolia has to Afgh?
Cheers,
Marcus

We have people on exchange with the Canadians, I imagine that's what he was doing. I think Kiwi's use a similar/same? DPM as the Poms.

Give the Aussies my regards when you see them again. :)
You never know, they could be SAS. They seem to be everywhere these days.

As far as I know the NZ PRT unit is operating around the Bamiyan Province.
Not sure why they would be in Kabul though.

How are you going in Afghanistan, by the way? Is it a nice holiday destination?

Hey thanks for replies, good info from you lot!
Was actually quite startled seeing Australians down here, especially only the one guy hanging about, or aboot with the Canadians. I'll see if i can link up with them the next time i see them.
Also this with exchanges, is that normal practice in Aus military? I remember us having one guy from Aus army intelligence attached to our company for some three months in Kosovo for him to do his thing. Excellent bloke he was! Would anyone know if he was there in a seperate Australian contingent, or just on exchange with the Brits? Just curious...
On note of Kiwis, if they've got their PRT in Bamyan, it might not be so strange if they were in Kabul, as it's not a too long drive up there.
So there's a new Kiwi contingent in... I'm guessing they'll move in with the Brits in that case. I'll see if i can have a chat with them in that case, heading in that direction pretty soon. Who knows. Stand by.
Nice pic btw, is that thing crew served or? ;)
In other news, Afgh is still going good. Kabul is very different than my home town in Norway. The folks here are very friendly, although there is the odd one out who hates anything western, including TV's. I would definately not go here for holiday yet, but if things keep going as they are now, this place should be able to support safe'ish tourism in the not too distant future. I would rank the scenery and people here in Afgh to some of the most spectacular and friendly i've seen/met, and there's lots to do here for the prospective backpacker.
I've still got my picture thread here on mp.net, but i'm currently unable to update due to getting some flak on, apparently, OPSEC issues by zealous busybodies. Hoping to get that part fixed soon.

Anyhow, thanks for replies folks. Any more on the subject would be appreciated.
Cheers,

Most of the Kiwis are located in/around the village of Bamian, Bamyan Province...with a small number of pers at Bagram AFB.
A fresh contingent changed over recently.
It would be great to see some NZ PRT photos if you get the chance to take them.....
If anyone offers to exchange some ration pack items.....avoid the mushroon risotto at all costs....you have been warned.
Stay safe
