Or how bout how half the team is packing M203 launchers, and they only used them once throught the entire movie.

Oh another big gripe, is when red runs into enemy fire to plant the claymore. he could have done the same damage with a couple of nades.

But overall i enjoyed the movie, just watching them with their weapons, and how they handle their gear is cool enough, looked professional for the most part. And the assault on the village was the highlight of the movie.

no to be too insulting of those who criticized the movie but WAKE UP and see past the movie and look at what it stands for. Ya sure it was an ok action movie but it was loosely based off of a real world event. None of you seem to care for the ethnic cleansing going on...i mean goddamn it's starting to sound like the U.N. around here.

My god people nit pick movies to death, since you guys want to nit pick it so much, how about this, pssst, the movie wasn't filmed in Nigeria, it was filmed in Hawaii. OMG!!! Sneaky film makers! If the F/A-18's needed to carry ordance from take off to going feet wet to expending it to make it a great movie, then you really need to get outdoors more, IT'S A MOVIE!!! Sheesh, what does it take to please you people when it comes to movies? There is only so much the DoD will allow hollywood to do with their equipment, if the DoD says they can use the F/A-18's but w/o weapons, then that is the DoD's call, not the movie makers, if the DoD says you cannot use certain tactics, etc for OPSEC reasons, then that is the DoD's call again.

Bruce Willis being an old Lieutenant, well we have what are called Mustang officers, because they are officers that came thru the enlisted ranks.

@DarkCypher - He did not have a "I'm not leaving here without these people" attitude, if you watched it you'd know he did leave them, and made a concious decision to do something more once he saw the aftermath at the mission. Could you honestly look yourself in the mirror after marching all those villargers and then just leaving them there to die? Are you saying you would leave those men, women, and children there to die?

@Doom - Out of curiousity, are you, were you a SEAL? Because you sure know how to storm a village. You should become a military/technical advisor in hollywood and show us how it's done.

I really have to side with Sgt Axeman1224 on this.

I would have left them at the shelter to begin with, I would have drugged the doctor and left without looking back. I accept the fact it was just a movie, but he acted all gung-ho and put himself and his team at risk.

How many seals died at the end? I recall only 2 made it. It was worthless.

I did get a large lump in my throat when they attacked that village though.

Monica Bellucci is Italian, not French.
I always thought she was french since she is often portrayed as so..
She started as a model in Italy then playing in some domestic TV shows before moving to France. She met the actor Vincent Cassel and married him. That is why she is often portrayed as "French". She had a lot of shootings last year in the USA so we will probably see her on screens in fall 2005!

Could you believe she is almost 37? I find her beautiful (at least no "Hollywood" surgery ;)) but not a very good actress because she always plays the same.

Aside from the fact that the movie was just generally ponderous and boring, it wasn't that bad, it just wasn't good.

The part that killed me was that the SEAL Lt. was able to turn around the helicopters, heh. I mean, maybe I misunderstand the chain of command, orders, and the privledge of special operations forces, but how did Bruce Willis have the authority to turn around those aircraft? I can see him saying no, I'm not getting on, and the pilots having to say, "Well, okay." But turning around aircraft on a set mission?

I guess the other part that was sill was that a mission like that would have been better executed in by a pair of CH-53s with AH-1W gunships and a couple squads of Marines. I mean, obviously the airthreat wasn't that great, because the retrieval team flew out in the middle of the day more or less unarmed, heh. But I guess then the film would have been twenty minutes long and kinda pointless. ;)

This movie was flawed in dozens of different ways and to say not to criticize it because it is only a movie is retarded. GOOD MOVIES DONT HAVE THAT MANY STUPID MISTAKES! Saving Private Ryan for example...

Good movies don't have stupid mistakes??? Here is a list of stuipd mistakes for Saving Private Ryan ;)

Revealing mistakes: The Mustangs at the end of the movie are supposedly dropping bombs but are were no bomb racks under the wings.

Factual errors: When Corporal Upham jumps into the crater occupied by Capt. Miller and Private Ryan, he is carrying .30 caliber ammo. Yet, Miller tells him that there are no .50 caliber positions in that hole and directs him elsewhere. The soldiers never had a .50 caliber gun.

Revealing mistakes: The German machine-gun - a MG 42 - in the German radar field scene, is correctly placed on a tripod, but for some reason the front sight is in the folded down/ carrying mode, not something You would expect from battle ready soldiers (and seasoned veterans) in a trench

Factual errors: Between shooting Caparzo, and himself being shot by Jackson, the German sniper is seen checking the scene through his rifle scope. The scope has a soft rubber eyecup and the sniper fits it snugly to his eye socket. Firing any caliber of high-powered rifle with your eye in contact with the scope would cause serious injury and rifle scopes usually have 3"-4" of "eye relief." You would not be able to focus on anything with your eye in contact with the scope

Factual errors: The password "Flash - Thunder" was only valid on D-day itself, 6 June 1944. From D+1 to D+2 it was "Thirsty - Victory", from D+3 to D+6 "Weapon-Throat", and from D+7 to D+9 "Wool - Rabbit"

Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): After Cpt. Miller obtains the location of Pvt. Ryan, Miller pulls out a map and compass and starts discussing where to head next. According to the field manual, one should not be wearing their helmet or have a weapon near by or the compass will not give an accurate reading

Anachronisms: In Neuville town, there is a car whose license plate number is 241 BG 50, where 50 is for French département of the Manche. But this sort of numbers' attribution on French cars began in 1950 ; number 241 BG 50 must have been given in year 1954.

Factual errors: Steven Spielberg is on record as saying that the reason that there is no British representation within the film is because there was no British military presence on Omaha beach. This is not true as the landing craft depicted in the initial assault on Omaha Beach were in reality manned by Royal Naval crew and not by the US Navy, and a number of them were killed in action on D-Day.

Factual errors: When Jackson faces off with the German sniper (after Caparzo is shot), he is seen making an adjustment to his scope. He says, "two clicks for windage" but he is seen adjusting the scope's objective lens, not the windage (which is done using the external adjustments near the rear of the scope)

Factual errors: Jackson's sniper rifle shown throughout the movie has an Unertl scope on it (very long tube with external adjustments). Only the Marines in the Pacific theatre used this scope. The Army used the standard Warner & Swasey scope

Factual errors: The US Army did not wear green T-shirts in WWII. They wore khaki tank tops

Anachronisms: WWII soldiers wore brown boots or brogans (hi-tops) with tan canvas puttees; black boots did not come into the inventory until 1958.

Should I go on??? Oh, and these are available on IMDB. :D

those are some trivial f*** mistakesOf course they are, and they have little effect on the quality of the film.

But he wasn't saying they did, he was just proving a point.

I said, "stupid mistakes" those are just nit-pickity worthless ones. there will always be mistakes in a movie but the good directors and producers try to limit the blatant ones.

My favorite part is when Bruce Willis's CO, keeps going out on the aircraft carrier flight deck....during flight operations....everytime he needs to talk to Bruce on his sattelite radio.

I mean, it would be a shame to ruin a perfect day and not take a walk around the flight deck.

That reminded me of something that happened today. I was lost earlier today going from Point A to Point B in a building today and got a lot of crap about being able to read a map, yet I led a squad at night at Fort Huachuca through a land nav course, hit every single point spot on, and was the first squad to complete the course. USMC here also LOL Truth hurts :P

I can't really enjoy any movie that has soldiers running through the jungle with bare heads

still it wasn't all that bad, I liked the one scene where they got attacked by a whole bunch of bad guys with rpg's and they run straight at them

too bad bruce willis runs like forest gump :cantbeli:
