They deserted. That would be the right word to use...
Talked the talk but couldn't walk the walk...
Anyway, does anyone know if La Legion still uses the F1, or if they've been issued the F2?

Anyway, does anyone know if La Legion still uses the F1, or if they've been issued the F2?Well, a about year ago the FFL/LE used only old FA MASes with 25-rounds magazines. Instructors said about them: "You've got eight triplets for enemies and if it doesn't work the last one is for you." ;)

Anyone know which sniper system legionaries use?7,62mm FR-F2 sniper rifle manufactured by GIAT (modernized version of older 7,5mm FR-F1).

The FRF-2 rifle, camouflaged. Chambered for the 7.62mm NATO ammunition and fitted with a SCROME J8 scope (8X magnification) the FRF-2 gives excellent results at ranges up to 800m whilst being reliable and sturdy in a variety of weather and terrain conditions. At night the scope was changed for an OB-50C night-vision device, giving remarkably accurate results at distances of up to 300m in very poor light conditions.

They're OK cause they're FOREIGN. Thus the name. Those rifles really do look polesmokerish though. No style. Strange, the French not having style.

They are Foreigners, Hello? The Viet Minh were getting their asses kicked in Vietnam thanks to all the Afrika Corps veterans that joined after WWII.
I have great respect for the Legion.
Uncle Cho, maybe you could blow me. ****.

Anyone interested in the Legion should read a book called "A Mouth Full of Rocks" by Christian Jennings. About a British fellow who joined the Legion in the 80s. Man its brutal, lots of good war stories about the brutality of basic training, whoring, poisoning African kids etc. Its been awhile, but if I remember correctly he says that because the Legion is the senior service, enlisted members of the French Armed Forces have to salute Legionaires regardless of rank. Thats almost reason enough to join, just to have French men salute you left and right. ;)

It is not illegal for french citizen to serve in legion but to join.Even foreigners can get french citizenship after 3 or 5 years of service.Frenchmen who want to join legion not exactly pretending they are not french citizens it is rather legion pretending they are not french but belgian for example. Before they sign contract they get new citizenship/ofcourse only for legion purpouses/,If they didn't pass selection they become french citizens again.Practicaly 50% of recruiters are frenchmen/not french citizens for legion/ plus all french officer. If anyone have any doubt about it please call legion recruiter in Paris for example, they speak english and will explain everything.

hahahahahaha, french people!
They have gone a long time in the ivory coast, and still havnt surrended. Probally because their CO's told them they wont have a french plane there to take them home if they surrender...
hahahahahaha rofl
volfram is right completely, that does not pose any problem for a person of French nationality to engage in the foreign legion.A its engagement, the legion will give him another identity and another nationality( French-speaking country)
