Question:
I've noticed that Russian soldiers/SF rarely use electronic sights on their equipment. No lasers...red dots, etcs. I wonder why. Is it that they have a much better shot than their Western counterparts and don't need to rely on technology. Is it a financial issue? Perhaps their guns don't have the necessary rail system for the sights. Anyone want to pipe in on this issue? It'd be appreciated.

It must be a money issue, if anything. Rails they do have, and so far I haven't heard of such a good shooter that he wouldn't benefit from a better sight.

There is a side (left) mounting rail on all of the Russian assault rifles starting with AK 74M.
Money is always an issue in any military but in this particular case (russian aiming devices are dirt cheap compared to their western counterparts) it is not the reason.
I have asked the same question multiple Russian combat veterans and the responses I got can be summed up into following:
a) I don't like them/trust them (not that devices are not reliable but rather the psychological perception of the would be user)
b) It is a matter of a habbit/old school (the most frequently used explanation)
c) I don't like extra sharp edges (almost everyone mentioned it as a reason among the others)
d) There is no/very limited use for them in type of engagements we are/were involved in.
e) I am as good with it as without it.
f) Reduced field of vision (that is also another big/frequent one)
g) They fog up (entering inside/outside)
h) It's a nice toy but thank you...
Some of those responses might seem strange or unusual to you but keep in mind - it is Russia.
In short - they are non-believers.
You will find strange but I also have heard that some would put the various gadgets on for the "show offs/PR" but would take them off for the actual combat deployment.
All of the above ralates to the various specialized units and not the regular infantry grunts (I don't think they will ever get a choice).
