I'm 5'11 135lbs. The only reason behind that is my stomach digestion problems.(ive dropped 10-15lbs in the last 3 months) I do plan on joining the army. I am starting to get back into shape by running,push-ups jumping jacks pull ups and calistinics (spelling?). Is there anything else i should be doing? Or do i have it basically covered? I plan to take basic this summer so I figure if I work out everyday I should (key word should) be in physicaly fit and back in shape...any thoughts slash insight feel free to post or pm me.

Don't forget sit ups and flutter-kicks (sp). All of that is good, but the main ones are push-ups, sit-ups and running, since that's what PT test is. And the best way to prepare for sit-ups is, if nobody is around to help, do flutter-kicks with legs very close to the ground. You'll do plenty of them in basic ;)

Do some long marches with a heavy pack as well. Start low (maybe 4 or five miles) and work your way up to 20. Try to maintain a pace of 4 miles an hour, marching 50 minutes out of the hour. Start with maybe 40 pounds and increase up to about 80. It'll help.

You definately need to gain some more weight. Try Protein shakes with Whey powder. Have 2 a day. One in the morning and one in the middle of the day. But you have to run/work out to achieve size increase. Have the shakes 1-2hours before working out. Throw some bananas and strawberries in there as well.
BTW im hoping on getting a slot in basic this summer as well. Your out west though right?

Ya im out west. Im going to go threw basic this summer. I wanna go rotc.
dont worry about it too much. running is a good idea, as is working out, but get yourself good and healthy first. basic will get you into shape. dont stress over it too much, really. running is definetly something i would keep at though...get yourself to a point where 3 miles is a comfortable daily thing, at a good solid pace (7 min per mile would be a good goal to shoot for). but first and foremost put on some good, healthy weight and be healthy. start eating good balanced meals, cut down on any vices such as strong drink or excessive snacks, and you'll be in shape for basic no problem. thats what kills people really...they have bad eating habits. if you eat healthy, keep running and just stay active, whether that may be through working out daily, playing sports, whatever you'll be set. believe me you will do PLENTY of pushups when you get down to basic, i garauntee that

Find an atmosphere thats gonna be conducive to getting in shape.
whether its a gym with a good vibe or reliable training buddies who are constantly pushing you.
also maintain your schedule...set a time for workouts and be there on time!! your body will grow and recover so much faster if you do that
oh, and make a work out log to monitor your progress..
Just eat candy all day and you'll do fine

Do you play any active sports?
What i'm doing now is going to the gym after school, then comming home and doing a 4-6km run and some pushups and situps before i go to bed.
I'm about 5'11" and around 90 kilos, and i'm in good shape for my schools First 15 Rugby Team trials :)

Yes.. Train like a seal, then go ROTC :)
Walk instead of driving, try to avoid junk food, go hiking over weekends and sleep in a tent, take up martial arts or boxing. The military has their tried and tested shock therapy waiting for you, you don't have to worry too much in advance.
other then running and just staying active, dont worry too much about PT...basic will get you there. and dont take semperfis' advice about eating candy! basic is designed to take the average 17-19 year old and get you into shape.

The very first thing you should do (if you haven't already)is see a doctor and get to the root of your problem....if he can't see a specialist.

Do you guys ever heard about metric system :) ?
I have 176 cm of height and 90kilos of weight.
Wich means i have spare 15-20 kilos(3-year studies, next 3 ahead ). And I'm at the point were losing weight becames a problem, wich werent before, but now I sit in front of computer all day long learnig computer science(Hypocricy: Me posting militaryphotos.net betwen one bit and another). Damn studies :) no time for sports.

same here..tho it has its disadvantages; before i did any PT i was at 'ideal weight'... when i started some exercising n stuff i lost more than 10 kg...now i'm slowly gaining, but i'm still almost 10 kgs underweight :(
funny thing is i dont even look skinny or anything, and most people would guess me at least 10-15 kgs heavier...

I have the opposite "problem", My metabolism is normal, and I stay the same weight, but as soon as I just train a bit... I put on muscle QUICK...
Sorta cool... :)
dont worry none too much on cold weather...depending on what branch youre going into, basic training is pretty damn hot, specially ft benning. just get yourself good and healthy..keep up the running. the army book on it says 20 minutes of hard running (which means at your max heart rate) is what you should be doing 4-5 days a week. hard running just means youre pushing yourself, you dont have to be sprinting or making yourself puke. the pushups and situps will come when youre there. if i remember right, when yo uget to basic you need to be able to do 35 pushups, and 45 or so situps in 2 minutes, along with a 2 mile run in something like a 17-18 minute time. its nothing. however, you dont want to just be doing the minimum now do you? i'd focus the most on running. if youre in halfway decent shape you can get yourself close to the max on pft(phys fitness test) in pushups and situps in less then 3 weeks.

well it's not that i dont get muscle...i DO get muscles normally..problem is...i still loose weight..it's really weird...when i just started the muscles came just as fast as the weight went down...it's really weird...like to get the muscles my body broke off every single piece of fat in my body everywhere... :|

Do you mean the minimum APFT standards? I believe its 42 pushups, about 45 situps and 16+ run... may be not exact, but I believe that's the barely passing scores.
when you first get to basic, they have basic requirements that are below the normal army standard of 180 total, 60 each. the regular army standard is, for males of the 17-21 age group, 42 pushups, 53 situps, and 2 miles in 15:51. when you first get to basic they dont expect you to be there just yet, but they do set a slightly lower goal for you initially. after they assess this, real PT begins. people who are in need of more help, get it.

Personally I push myself hard in work outs. Ive been in good shape realitivly and am pushing myself hard, I did a good 45 minute run today and a ass load of situps and push-ups. I dont worry about the minimum requirements that will be no sweat, I just want to be a better soldier than anyone else. Keep the info coming guys thanks alot for all the response's and help :)

Max Muscle makes the best Chocolate protein shake out there.

You should be able to gain some weight with milk mixed in with bananas, strawberries, etc. 2 times a day. Since you burn energy and have the highest rate of metabolism in the morning, definitely drink one then, and like mentioned above, 1-2 hours before workout.
Good luck in basic!

Eat at least one pizza and drink half a dozen beers every night. Keep up the running and you will stack on the weight in no time. Remember try not to spew up the beers and pizza during the runs as you will only be wasting valuable carbo's. :D
quality training plan: go to a track..after each lap chug a beer, then continue. if you make it 2 miles youre a better man then i

Unfortuneatly my health seems to be heading down-hill fast...My stomach problems have only been getting worse..I'm down to a couple mouth fulls of food a day...The chances of me joining the military this year are looking mighty slim. Maybe next year it all depends on my health and at the moment it isnt looking to promising. :(
dont worry about the army, we'll wait. get yourself healthy first. use the time off and git yourself some schooling 'fore you join our crazy bunch. soo just do what the docs say, get yourself back to 100%, then you can get serious bout the running, workouts, etc. hey as long as youre not joining for a year, get a year of college in or something, maybe take an athletic training/nutrition class so you know how to really get a solid work out in

No kidding. Take care of your health problems first. Don't go messing around with the protein shakes and those things. Get back to a healthy metabolism and take it from there. No hurry. Good idea to keep hittin the books too. The more college you get behind you before the Army the better off you will be and the better soldier you will make.
I train recruits that are prepping for basic training. If you have any questions PM me and I'll help you with any thing you need.

Weight and physical appearance doesn't play a role at all.
IMO, the first thing to work out is endurance (both physical and mental). Long marches with heavy backpacks. Long period of time without food and water. Extreme temperatures. Facing personal fears.
There are many techniques, but not enough time.
Most definitely, you should take care of your stomach problem.

About weight and physical strength - one of the toughest marines in my squad was a kid who was about 5'5" and weighed (maybe) 140 lbs. He could out hump (hump is marine speak for a ruck march - I thought a clarification might be in order before you non marines made lewd references to our relations with the navy) just about anyone - especially the big guys who spent too much time in the gym. They looked awfully pretty, with their big muscles and all ;) but they often had troubles with endurance when they were saddled with 100 lbs. of gear.

I've seen many of similar examples. One of the guys in my group was skinny and short guy. By looking at him, you would think that he is a typical computer geek. But that guy was one hell of a shooter, and would go on missions with us up in the mountains carrying a PKM machinegun. Even when guys got tired, it seemed as if he didn't walk at all.
