I am looking for a front opening (quick opening) fanny pack to hold a large frame 45. I have seen and used Blackhawk and similar types, but they scream "pistol"! Any suggestion, looking for something a bit more subdued.

Check out Thunderwear. Google it. After you get done laughing at the idea, try it out- it works well.

All fannypacks scream "gun" to me... Just sayin'.
What about an IWB holster? I've got one that is GREAT! Kramer Handgun Leather.

It stands out as a "tactical" pouch. IMHO

Yes, true, the others are a better choice I suppose. Hard to get the tactical "out of my system" for non-military use. Thanks!
Oh, what does IMHO mean? (Go ahead and make fun of me now!)

Yes, I already have this one. I have a TON of this type of gear (tactical nylon). Thanks.
I am not trying to find a concealable holster for the streets or public places, more for hiking and camping. Don't like the lack of accessibility with the shoulder rigs (cold weater/coats/many layers of clothing and wearing a back pack) That is a lot going on to try and get to the pistol. A fanny pack seems most practical for this application.
I appreciate everones help!

I would recommend the Galco pack. I've got one I use regularly.
While a fanny pack is more of a "low profile carry" than true "concealed carry" it has its place. If temporary storage is necessary, you can take the pack off without having to handle the gun (very discreet). In the summer, particularly at outdoor events (State Fair, Zoos, etc) fanny packs are in common use, and fit right in.
There are a couple of things you can do to "lower the profile" of your fanny pack. First of all, don't get a black or OD one. The more odd the color, the less likely someone might think it's a gun. (although I must admit that a more subdued color might be less easily noticed). Another neat trick is to get a camera logo patch and sew it onto the fanny pack. A student of mine sewed a medical patch on his fanny pack, and when people ask him what it's for, he says "lifesaving equipment."
Fanny packs tend to be sized larger than necessary, so I recommend you don't buy one sight unseen. Go to a shop where you can actually fit them to the gun you are carrying. Get the smallest fanny pack that fits your gun.
Remember there are places where a fanny pack won't blend at all (such as a formal dinner) - so dress accordingly.

Thanks for the advice, you have defiantly hit the nail on the head. I will do just that and get a patch or something to change the focus of the bag. I don't plan on needing this set up for anything other than outdoor activities. I have true concealable holsters and other options for carrying a weapon for those events/times where a fanny pack is inappropriate.

I've got one of these, and it's pretty comfortable.

Only trouble is that it's black nylon.
