Those are just modified canadian bisons. The first one looks like it could be a LAV3 as well.

Yeah I reckon Evanloyd is right...considering the Aussies bought a bunch of LAVs off of us, suprisingly enough, its called the ASLAV there.

yeah your right
In 1992 under Phase 2 of the ASLAV Program, the Army acquired 111 of the Australian version of the Canadian manufactured LAV. By 1997 the 2nd Cavalry Regiment was fully equipped with the ASLAV.
Phase 3 of the ASLAV acquisition was approved with the follow on purchase of 144 vehicles with increased levels of local content including the fabrication and assembly of LAV-25 turrets by General Motors Defence Australia.

The Stryker is basically the same, but it is much heavier, has slightly different armor, lighter armament, poorer performance, and a much higher price tag.
The army welded steel cages around the hulls of Strykers going to Iraq to "protect" them from RPG fire. WTF?

in the 1980's saracens and pigs in northern ireland where fitted with 'kremlin' mesh armour to protect them from RPG/LAW type weapons that the IRA had acquired it as far as i know it worked ok but I'm sure someone here will know a bit more about it.

the reason for the wire mesh is it predetonates a RPG type round thus reducing its penetration capabilities....if the intial explosion is keep as far away from the actual armour as possible then the less it can really penertrate. Same as sandbagging APCs and tanks that has been happening for years.

The ASLAV is vastly different than the LAV III. It has more in common with the USMC LAV-25 or the Canadian Coyote & Bison. See my explination: http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums/viewtopic.php?p=124042#124042

Insurgents fired the rocket-propelled grenade at the Bradley in the town of Beiji, north of Tikrit, late Saturday, piercing the driver's compartment and critically wounding the soldier. The soldier was evacuated to a military hospital, where he died.http://globeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20040125.wiraq0125/BNStory/Front
Maybe this soldier would still be alive if the RPG cage were put on all AFVs. The Stryker is not the only platform that can be killed by an RPG. Even the mighty M1A2 has been felled by it.

Here it is:
Australia chose the LAV II after trialing 14 x USMC LAV-25 and 4 x Canadian Bison. One key difference to note is how close the muffler of the ASLAV is to where the exhaust pipe exits the side of the vehicle compared to the LAV-25.
