View Full Version : EU to shut our embassies

ALL of Britain’s 153 embassies across the globe will be shut if we adopt the European constitution, Spain’s Premier said yesterday.
They would be replaced by Euro missions answerable to Brussels.
Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero blew the lid on the plan in a radio interview.
He said: “We will undoubtedly see European embassies in the world, not ones from each country, with European diplomats and a European foreign service.”
Britain and France would also lose their voices in NATO and their seats on the UN Security Council, said Mr Zapatero.
He added: “We will see Europe with a single voice in security matters. We will have a single European voice within NATO. We want more European unity.”
The bombshell made nonsense of Tony Blair’s claim that Britain will keep its power to act alone.
And it fuels fears that Britain will have to toe the EU line even if the Government disagrees with Germany and France — as it did over Iraq.
Socialist lawyer Mr Zapatero, 44, was slammed for surrendering to terrorist demands when he withdrew Spanish troops from Iraq as soon as he was elected.
Shadow Foreign Secretary Michael Ancram reacted angrily to his outburst last night.
He said: “Spain’s PM has made clear what Tony Blair has denied again and again — that the EU constitution is all about handing vast new powers to Brussels.
“Now we know that, if we approve it, the EU will run foreign policy.”
Neil O’Brien, of anti-EU constitution group Vote No, said: “Our government doesn’t tell the truth about the constitution.
“It means another transfer of power to people in Brussels who are not elected and can’t be voted out.”
Spaniards are expected to back the new EU constitution as their country has received billions in subsidies from Brussels.
The new European masterplan states: “Member States shall actively and unreservedly support the Union’s common foreign and security policy.”
The Foreign Office sought to play down Mr Zapatero’s views.
A spokesman said: “Britain will keep its embassies, its seat in NATO and its foreign policy. That cannot change without our agreement.”
A PRIVATE Foreign Office memo warns three out of four Brits do not want closer EU integration.

I agree with the UN. But I disagree with the UK joining the EU.
I would much rather have a single "Commenwealth of Nations" currency, security and diplomatic ties.
Haha Long Live the Empire!

Geezah...I am tempted to say that you are an idiot...
(No, I didn't say it, I was only tempted, just for the protocol). But what you posted is, the for Britain so typical, Murdock invented/exaggerated the-EU-conspiracy-is-conquering-Britain-(!!!)panic(!!!) crap.
The European Union is not the Soviet Union, despite Murdocks-Media saying so and even despite the "union" in both organisation's names. It simply canNOT take the British flagg, the British national anthem, the British army, the British queen, the British embassies or the British UN seats away. The EU simply has not the right to do so. (Why did Zapatero say such things? I have no clue...but he has nothing to decide about that matter, nothing at all). The most extreme thing the EU could do, is to plead Britain to give them these things, and then it is your governments decision to agree to it or not. And every conceivable government (even Blairs) will say "no", without the slightest hesitation. (And frankly, to most of these questions certain other nations governments would say "non" or "nein" and so on).
So stop panicking. And stay frosty.

I can't believe you posted such a stupid article!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why the fuk are you guys constantly posting articles about the EU as something negative to the UK!!! The UK will loose power, the UK will close its embassies, UK athletes will salute the EU flag instead of the Union Jack, the UK will pay................. As its name says, the European Union is a UNION of countries, a VOLUNTARY UNION, in which each members both receive and sacrifice, not only the UK (come on , assume you're not the centre of the Universe).
And come on!! this always comes from the Sun (i don't want to call it newspaper but toilete paper)

Freibier means the rights of your respective American state. Once each of these had their own militias and stuff. Today you are all opressed by the Union. I pity you.

Uk voluntarily joined the Eu now is the wrong time to complain all the time. The coming agendas must have been noticeable when they joined. If they dont like what they put themselves in 30 years ago they can still get out of this oranization. They are a big country , they should be able to discuss some free trade rights agreements like Switzerland and Norway have done. They have got some of the advantage without joining.
Europeans seem eager to cede their sovereignty.
I pity them.
First they still have a say trough their own countries rulers. It's not like giving power to a single powerful country. Altough the different size of member countries change is into the direction for some.
And now you think that countries not only in Europe should take part in different wars and us projects without discussion only if the Us only gives orders???
Thats the image atleast I get from some mp members.

Well I can't speak for everyone, but I wasn't alive in 1865...
Some english newspapers really are fun for reading, although they don´t deserve the name of "newspaper", they are other different thing. It´s a bull**** whay they say about Zapatero statements. It seems as if all europe is looking at GB ready to liquidate that country, the only country and the only problem EU has is GB. The only thing Shoemake...eehr Zapatero said is he likes the idea of lets say a spanish citizen travelling across Butan or Brunei, where I don´t know if there´s any spanish ambassade, can be assited by the embassy of any european embassy, lets say british, as if he was a british. I think it´s a good idea and the contrary too. But in now way I would like a british or maltese citizen can be first than me in the cue of the spanish ambassade in Paraguay, where I´m sure the services of spanish ambassade are way better than any of both countries mentioned before. Is it clear? ;)

Sry, but those arent militia's, being as they are run by the state and federal government. A militia would be, say, the Michigan Militia...

there are some non-government supported militias...
but none the less, there is little feel for the rights of a single state outside the union.

Don't know about anyone else but i am shocked and amazed that the Sun is printing anti-EU scare stories.
You'd have thought it was owned by a powerful right wing American citizen with his own agenda to push they way it rants on.

fox news usually gets the facts, just as most other news services, they are just biased in the opposite direction. They are not more biased than the others.
