Goldman,

How about crediting the author of the article you took those pictures from? That's the least you could do since I sure you don't have permission to post them. Here, let me do it for you since you didn't to do it in the first place.

Those photos came from thise article written by Pat Rogers:
http://forcerecon.com/strongmenarmed.htm

Not wearing armor/helmets on any live patrols just sounds really stupid to me.

Not wearing armor/helmets on any live patrols just sounds really stupid to me.You must be thinking of patrols through the streets of Ar Ramadi. I can assure you, that's not the kind of patrolling they're talking about...

I understand, yet it still sounds stupid to me. If you are in an enviroment where you are being shot at, and you had the option to wear a vest, I would be wearing the vest. It's only an extra twelve pounds, and how much is one's life worth?

And Pat is VERY protective of his copywrite, and will probably be contacting someone soon to ask that his images and the bandwidth not be stolen.

Twelve pounds more ammunition, food, or otherwise that you could be carrying on a LRRP.

Which won't do you any good if you get shot in the chest by a sniper.

HobowithAK-Done much patrolling in full assault order have you? I can assure you that there are factors other than being paranoid about a sucking chest wound from a sniper that need be considered when loading out for a job. Everything is a trade-off or compromise. If patrolling in the "J" going down with heat stroke is more of a concern than snipers, If going in as Fire Support then ammo, ammo and more ammo may take precedence over protecting your sternum. Look at your history books some of the worlds best patrollers (such as Rhodesian Light Inf, Australians and yes even Force Recon often go without Body Armour/Helmets. Not every job is in an urban environment.

Maybe, but I'd trust the judgment of trained and experienced Force Recon Marines over your own when it comes to wearing armor on a LRRP.

Pat Rogers is a good man and has done a lot to help the FR community and was an SOTG instructor but was never FR himself!

I reckon I could count on one hand the amount of times I patroled with helmet and vest on.
