View Full Version : How effective are bit torrent files?

I'm wondering if i should go for the regular patch for AA:O or go the bit torrent way. i was using bit torrent for the NFS:U demo, and i only got 10 kb/sec where i could get the ordinary demo at 250 kb/s.

california joe, i'm just looking for straight answers. i know when AA:SF is released, it will be impossible to get in a server spot, or the download will be horrendously slow. i'm just wondering which would be a better solution.

Get an account at www.gamespot.com and use their download manager. It's connected to a relay network kind of like Kazaa except it's all automatically done when you click on the download link. I frequently get download speeds well over 200kb/s (I downloaded the NFSU demo at 500kb/s).

BT files are annoying at best. Hope you got that problem fixed though.

BT, are one of the best in their kind. Ussualy if more users, esspecialy guys hanging on good academic cables like you Seul, is connected users will get better downloads. I've never had problems with games distributed over BT. You can pause/restore downloads with surnes you got what you wanted because of the md5 sum checking of the whole file and chunks of the file. You don't have that on ftp or http based downloads. With games I always had max of my dsl with means 70kB/s. I wouldn't be surprised if that gamespot thingy would be based on torrents. BT have great network optimisation algorithms.
