I found some insults about russian snipers on Contemporary photos page. Here is my answer. This is video of russian snipers training. Sorry for awful video and audio quality.
Some comments are required. Video timeline:
1. Sniper's championship just ended. Comments about winners (one of SOBR teams won). Current training.
2. Shooting herb and twig
3. Shooting terrorist
4. Sync shot of two snipers
5. Interview with instructor (How much people did you kill? Incorrect question son. )
6. Face on target should be beatiful. Beauty shouldn't stop you on mission.
7. Night shooting

The story about vassily zaitsev is fake, it was a propaganda story.
Check this out.

a qoute after the story
"
*Indeed, the whole story of the sniper duel is fiction. There is absolutely no trace in
the German military archives or SS records of SS officer Heinz Thorwald.
Also there is absolutely no report of the duel in the Red Army files which concentrated
on sniper activities (the daily reports of the Political Department of Stalingrad Front to Moscow)
This great story can be classified as Sovjet propaganda. "
EDIT: By the way the movie doesnt tell what the story says, the movie is a bit different from the story itself. For you guys who dont know what were talking about, its the movie ENEMY AT THE GATES, look it up
Not saying that russian snipers are bad, actually heard alot of good of them. i think the most critisiscm here in the forum is when looking att SVD rifle with russians. Some people just dont make difference btw a sharpshooter and a sniper.
You mean to tell me that Stalin made up propaganda?

Is there any source where you got it from? I'm sure you checked all the german records yourself, but I need something more than that... :|
the duel Zaitsev - Thorvald / König was fake, however Zaitsev himself was pretty real :)
however, the real WW2 king snipers are still finish :)

however, the real WW2 king snipers are still finish :)Right but they were in fact sniper-commandoes. Nobody knows why(*) Russians withdraw from idea of using submachineguns in late '30. This fact revenge on them during Finno-Russian war. So one Finnish so-called snpier with the SMG often eliminated several Russian soldiers with bolt action rifles. And just after the war Russian came back to the submachineguns.
(*) OK, this is rethorical phrase ;)
They withdrawed in February 1939 all SMGs from line units (i.e. 7,62mm PPD M1934) because Russian believed that new self-loading rifles (fed by intermediate rounds) will very fast completely replace submachineguns. They made mistake well... about 7 years (the very first AK assault rifle was made in 1946).
"They made mistake well... about 7 years (the very first AK assault rifle was made in 1946)."
Wasn't really a mistake... it was just an unforseen interruption that delayed that replacement... which actually was the SKS in experiemental batches in 1944.
The Soviets were the first to really introduce a custom designed Sniper rifle that wasn't based on an existing type. It was used by both sharpshooters in every unit (as long range firepower to suppliment the LMGs and MMGs like RPD/RPK/RPK-74 and PKM, while the infantry's AKs provided short range firepower/suppression.)

Wasn't really a mistake... it was just an unforseen interruption that delayed that replacement... Not exactly - they developing two intermediate rounds in late 30s - 7,62mm and 5,5mm, but the decision of withdrawal the SMGs was a mistake.
And the first step in change Russian Army were the battle rifles - 7,62mm x 54R AVS-36 (1936) and AVT-40 (1940) and 7,62mm x 54R self-loading rifles SVT-38 (1938) and SVT-40 (1940). Not very successful in Russian hands, but Germans praised them. They have complicated mechanisms but with good maintaince they also works well.
