What was the deal with the dog...i rewinded it if you look closely in the distance you can see the dog run up on a mound of dirt near the medic when he shoots him. I dont think the PBS guy should have made the comment about how he said the guy wasnt in danger. Those dogs have rabeys and im sure the soldier had a good reason to shoot it. Although i wonder why he let it lie there and suffer instead of putting it out of its misery. It was tough to watch.

I guess its 9PM in all time zones, I'm patiently waiting to watch..
I thought it was very good. Very real.
About the churches, that has been on the news before. I don't think it's anything new.
The dog? The camera didn't reveal much about what happened.

I can't believe that soldier shot a dog that was 'running' at him...whats wrong with a warning shot? I bet that would scare the **** outta of it.

That was BS how those poor guys got hit so much.. :( RIP
The dog can be seen running in parallel with the soldier, although not directly at him. This shot below shows that the dog was still rather close to him.

I could just see the disgust in the Iraqi as he was sitting next to the dog. Not saying it was wrong but maybe he could have done something less damaging...things like this go bad on the image of the Military in Iraq, and this could be making the sector for them more hostile. My 2 cents.

Dogs are different. To americans, at least, they are seen as 100% innocent and as mans loyal companion. It difficult to see watch any living thing cry on the ground in pain, not just dogs. How many threads have been opened over whether or not a soldier was in the right to kill an insurgent. Its just that in this video we were presented with the video of dog in pain not a person. Also do you own a dog? It is difficult to understand unless you have ever had a dog of your own.

Well, I'd do that but it's going to be available right from their site as of this Friday, so it's not really worth the effort.

You're missing the whole point. It's not about a dog, it's about iraqi civilian's liking/hating the US Military. Things that look so small can create anti-coalition fighters.
Just like they're leading officer had become a target after the civilian was killed. He and his men might not have done it, but yet some locals rose up and gave them hell.

I kind of stumbled onto the show about half way through this evening. I started watching as they were hooking up the damaged HMMWV with the two straps.
Seeing the memorial for Babbit was very, very touching. I can only imagine how difficult that must be to go through.
As for the dog, well, I wasn't there, I can't judge. I think they could have done something to resolve the situation a little better with the local. He was obviously a little upset, rightly so. The fact that it left the local with a poor attitude is much more important than the fact that the dog died.

Thousands of dogs were killed in the war zones by soldiers. Sometimes it was organized by military ... there was Operation Mutley that took part in Northern Kosovo in the spring 2000. Hundreds of street dogs started to attack the catle and even the children. British and Czech soldiers killed more than 500 dogs in three weeks. The source is very reliable ...

You guys are starting to sound like the media who critisized the Marine for shooting the guy laying down faking to be dead. Why don't you all shut up about the incident. If the medic thought he was being threatened by the dog, he had every right to take appropriate measures, and I support his decision.

After the pullout of American troops in Vietnam, what resulted was many dogs that were kept as pets by the GIs were left on the airbases. My father-in-law (former South Vietnamese Air Force Pilot) had to go into the vacated airbases and kill them all off. Too bad there werent any Koreans around to haul them all off. ;)

1. Arabs, in general, hate dogs. IIRC Mohammed declared dogs to be unclean animals, much like pigs. When I was in Kuwait, we adopted several stray dogs, some with gunshot wounds, that we eventually had to put down ourselves. It sucked.
2. An insurgent can suck my ass. Like a drill sergeant of mine once said, "Hit my kid and I'll hurt you. Hit my dog and I'll kill you." If given the choice between running into a street to prevent a dog or an Iraqi from getting hit by a car, I would take the dog. Any day. Dogs don't do any wrong. People do.
3. That said, many dogs in the MidEast aren't pets. They're wild animals, much like Coyotes and Wolves here. It's not unheard of to round up and kill wild dogs - in fact, it probably happens frequently.

If you feel you need to become an armed insurgent terrorist because they killed your dog then you have way too much time on your hands/
I'm waiting for PETA to pipe up and protest the video.
Anyways, what I found interesting was their way of pinpointing attacks and how capturing those 25 fighters really brought down the number of attacks.

haha, there was a game called "wolfenstein 3-d" in which you tried to escape a nazi castle, people never complained about the killing of the nazis (though evil, were human) but they complained about how you could kill the guard dogs.

It happened in the show- remember when that one family pledged revenge against the Captain(I think) for the death of their son. I wouldnt be surprised if incedents like the dog create a lot of angry insurgents.
