How do you combat procrastination? Get those things done that you dont really want to do? Keep an ok situation from going bad, and then becoming worse by procrastinating?

Stop being a lazy douchebag. If you WANT to stop being a procrastinating pussy, then you will do something about it.

castrating is most effective.
i usually concentrate best in libraries or quiet places. Stay away from the computer, and no music either. Force yourself to become interested in your work/homework. Then watch Conan after you're done.

I am really bad at procrastinating...sometimes I wonder how I ever finished some assignments because I started so late. It's a pain to get started, but try to get in a good mindset. Do exactly as Redux said - go to a quiet place, where you feel comfortable...But whatever you do, stay away from the computer and TV. My computer is in my room so it makes it even harder. But just leave your computer off and think about how relieved you'll be when you're done. You won't have to worry about the assignment anymore, and you can stay on the computer or watch TV however long you want. I won't say stay away from music; sometimes music helps people concentrate more. Are you into classical? If not, turn it on while you're doing homework and see how it works for you. It's said to increase a person's concentration and improve their scores..It helps me become calm...sometimes being in a completely quiet area can be as bad as being in a room of dying cats.
Also, don't focus on doing it in ONE day. Divide the work up so you won't have so much to do. Working on it straight for hours can drive someone crazy...whether it be 1 day or 2 weeks before the due date.
I say these things and still don't do them sometimes...ends up hurting me in the end. Think of the rewards you will receive because you finished...not just material awards like grades, but a feeling of accomplishment...people love to feel that. :) good luck zaak

OMG.. this is my worst problem... procrastinating... I've been trying to just force myself to do all my **** FIRST ONCE, and hopefully it'll become easier...
Too bad I'm on here instead of carrying out my plan.

Some sort of laxative would probably help with that.

dont cram tests, it's much better reviewing EVERYDAY. you dont have to memorize everything, but at least understand the concepts and terms.
and about the music, only classical works for most people. IMO, any music with bass is a distraction.

Make out a schedule of what you want to do today. If you don't have a set time to do something, then its very likely mp.net or video games will seem like a much better idea(at that time p-) ) then studying for your final that you have tomorrow morning.

Whatever it is you don't like doing and therefore keep putting off, just do it to music.
For example, if you don't like working out try doing it to music. Homework, cleaning the gutters, whatever, it's always easier when you have some good tunes to keep you occupied. After a few times you don't mind it so much and it becomes rather enoyable so you don't put it off. And the good results make you happier too.

Bah, that's all the easy stuff.. Homework is what I procrastinate. Most of the time unless I'm writing, I listen to music. (If I write while playing music I start typing random words from the song)

Given that most people's schoolwork is on the computer, it's kind of hard to avoid web-oriented distractions.
You do your work first. Then if you have any time left over, you play. Not the other way around.
It's that simple. The quicker you get started, the more time you have for **** later.
Those of you who are doing essays that involve research, allocate at least 2 hours per single-spaced typed page [500 words] if you're a natural writer. Otherwise double that.
Personally I found that turning off IRC, MSN and temporarily removing your shortcut to IEXPLORE.exe greatly improves your working ability. ;)

Hehe, well I had to turn in a month of homework yesterday and didn't even study for the essay we had to write in class. From Sunday to Wednesday I had about 7 hours of sleep total. I read 180 pages of Hedley Bull in a day in a half. That doesn't sound too bad except that Bull is kinda boring, but not as boring as Waltz. So then I had to do 8 short answer questions on the reading, study for my German presentation and do it's homework, and I put off the 1000 word paper (that's only the first part, the other parts are due later) till last night and this morning. Now all I have to worry about it getting my Computer Science homwork done by 7 pm tomorrow.
