Great video, brought back memories. I saw this video back in the 90's while attending a PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor course. The "brachial stun" as its called, is pretty awesome. It works just exactly the way it's shown in that video. :)

Hey i did a pretty good search on google and couldn't find much on the Brachial stun . So how does it work ? i did see a little bit on google , says that it is an open hand palm , heel strike to the side of the neck . But how does it knock you out ? Blood loos ? Sudden shock you brain can't deal with . I mean that guy was knocked the fug out quickly , for quite q while too . Can't really tell from the video but it looks as if the guy oly had about 12 or so inches in his strike till impact . That's not too much energy compaired to a full swing . Damn effective ! Hook us up with da knowledge !

The brachial plexus nerves run up either side of the neck. Strikes to the brachial plexus (like the brachial stun), and other motor nerve points, cause an overstimulation in the motor nerve leading to temporary muscle impairment. In the case of a well-delivered brachial stun like the one in the video, this overstimulation results in unconciousness, or what we like to call "landing gear up syndrome." Also, there are two spots on the body that are immune to epinepheral (sp?) dumps: the bladder & the brachial plexus. No matter how wigged out a guy might be, shots to the bladder and brachial plexus will usually end the foray.

Nah, I'm not current anymore. I hung up my tin star back in 1993. I enjoyed the heck out of that course though. Our guys found the PPCT techniques very effective and easy to use. :)
