There is no way I would sit around and watch this happen. I would step in and help the guy.
"The video shows Mark Jones, who is more than 6 feet tall and weighs almost 300 pounds, repeatedly striking Joseph Scarpino in the face and body as customers watched.
Jones was found guilty of felonious assault last week and was sentenced to four years in prison.
Scarpino suffered a broken eye socket and nose, a concussion and a chipped tooth in the beating.
The incident began when Jones' girlfriend cut in line in front of Scarpino.
Scarpino was on his cell phone and told his fiance it might take a little longer to get their pizza.
Jones' girlfriend got mad at the comment and created such a commotion that the manager tried to kick her out.
That's when Jones stepped in and hit Scarpino at least seven times.
Jones' girlfriend, Prestia Sims, is scheduled to go on trial next month for her alleged role in the incident.

Agreed. If she would of been calm and not enrage her Bf that was perhaps sitting in the car waiting for the meal. Non of this would of happened~

I would have broken a chair on that mans head for his violent behaviour.

Comments like that make me laugh, its easy to call them losers when u r sitting in your home watching the video safely on the 'net. If you were there when he went off it would be a whole other kettle of fish. A pissed off 6 ft 300 pound person, is no one to be trifled with
If you look at the store it didn't have any chairs, it was most likely walk in and delevery only. So now what are you gonna do, hit him with a breadstick?

I'd probably wave the breadstick in front of his pudgy face then chuck it out the door and watch 300 pounds of blubber go charging through the wall to go and eat it.

It's all about taking the initiative. If one person steps in, everybody in that pizza place will follow. I don't care if that fat guy is king kong, 5-6 guys in that pizza place is more than enough to stop him.

It's hard to fight back when you get your **** knocked out with the first sucker-punch.

Sorry but that's an assumption you cannot make...if they were all there together than sure, but if they are all complete strangers trying to buy a slice, then not so fast my friend. Would you trust a complete stranger to have your back?
most peoples first instinct is self preservation, they see a 300 pound guy on the warpath , they think does this have to involve me? 9 times out of 10 if the answer is no then they aint gonna so squat.

I've seen Arnie films, taking a punch from a massive guy full in the face is no big deal, your head just goes to the side slightly, then you continue fighting! lol

Unfortunately, you are correct. Think about it, next time you're in a club/bar and a brawl breaks out, the whole place doesn't pitch in, do they, no, they scatter and watch from a distance mostly.

Self preservation? Doubt it. It's more like passing on the responsitiblity to the next person. I bet all the guys in that pizza place were thinking "hmm....i don't have to step in, but i'm sure the guy next to me would step in to help that poor guy."

Yeah, that's exactly what they were thinking most probably. Sad but true. Unless you are connected to one of the protagonists in some way, most people would back off and say 'wtf?'. Spraying them both with a fire extinguisher would be one option.

All they need is a little spark, a little initiative from one person and the rest will follow. Courage is a contagious. Don't even tell me 5-6 adult men can't stop that attacker.

Some big guy (about 6'4") randomly started on me in KFC in Cardiff once. He pulled back to punch me at which point I and some random guy punched him in the jaw one after the other from either side. He went straight down. The other guy was a 5'6" welshman. All around there were 4-5 guys ready to pile in.
But they were welsh! I love those guys...

Good that you find this funny..
But yea there might be a problem with the chairs.
But still he is only one, and in a well lit area shouting at him shouldn't be so difficult, or at least glare at him slightly... I've seen sheep that look more menacing than those customers or the cashier...

Just bear in mind though, when the Cops show up, they arrest everyone involved. So pray that you have sober witnesses, or video cameras present, if you try and help someone out. Trust me, from experience. And no I'm not bitter. ;)

i never said 5 - 6 men can't stop that attacker, but what you are saying is not always the case. Ina perfect world what you say should happen but we all know this world is not perfect.
Unless people have a reason to get involved...9 times out of 10 they will not get involved. People are selfish by nature, the majority of us are not going to risk injury to help someone they don't know. Especially if they feel intimidated.
You think the way you do because you are in the military and you kickbox, most people out there don't have that background, training to take the initiative, or physical and mental confidence to do anything about a situation like that.
Hell the only reason they even stood there is because there was only one entrance and that was blocked by the attacker, otherwise they would have gotten out of dodge.

I like to derail threads, so here I go....
some of you are recreational fighters (Jack). would there be a form (ie: "style") you would recommend? A building block for someone who wants to get into recreational fighting - at a club (right word?) not in the street p-)
FYI: I'm aware its like asking what car is best; but no one has ever been able to justify their form over another when I ask.

Try Mui Thai kickboxing and/or Brazilian Jujitsu. It's great for recreational fighting as well as street use.
It's very important to spend money on a good mouthpiece and groin cup. I personally have my own custom mouthpiece made by my dentist because to replace one of my teeth can be very expensive. As for getting kicking in the balls...well, I don't have to explain. So, wear your cup and mouthpiece at all times.
