IMHO any band that uses mass marketing to sell records then purely their musical talent. IE ****kot, Manson, Evanescence, Elvis, Eminemm, J-Lo, Avril needs some **** Lavigne, etc etc.

Dont take this too personal, but you sound like a dumbass. ;) Selling out has nothing to do with a pre-teens definition of success. Selling out is when a band writes music that they dont believe in or that they're just writing it for the fame/success. Most musicians write music for themselves from their personal experiences and from their personal beliefs. If you call that selling out simply because they happen to find an audience that agrees with them, then you'll probably understand what I mean when you get older. If you still dont understand when you grow up a little, ask an adult to explain it to you. woot

Nothing worst than a underground/alternitive group or solo artist that sold out and becoming pop for the mainstreamers!

Since alot of the members here are into this type of music, I would say Metallica. My bro and alot of the older dudes I know were into this group until they sold out, long time ago.

I'm with Secret Squirrel on this one. The term selling out is abstract and over-used. I don't blame any of those bands a bit for wanting to make enough money to play music proffessionally and travel in something nicer than an 84 Chevy Child Molester Van.

Quit your elitist "omg I'm so underground I listened to them before they were big" crap. Sure, it's nice to enjoy a band that not everyone knows about, but just because others do doesn't mean you can't still enjoy their music.

On a side note, it does suck when the radio takes a band or song that was pretty cool and over-plays, over-exposes, and over-whores them out to the general populace to the point where everytime you hear their music on a random commercial or half-time show it makes you cringe.

I consider selling out if a band plays a certain style of music just to get noticed. Then change as soon as they sign to a major label to become more radio friendly.

I know greenday signed to a major label but thier music has actually gotten harder and more political. So I can't really say they sold out. Blink182 has allways beenl ame so... and I think Red Hot Chillipeppers has allways just done what they want.

Yeah, I don't get how you could consider RHCP to be "sellouts."
