Here is a story that happened to a friend of mine. The team is on a JCET in Norway at the ski school. They had a couple of support guys attatched to them. Well this school is pretty physicaly demanding as well as in an extreme climate. Half-way through a ski-tour in the middle of nowhere one of the support guys just stops and lays down in the snow. "I quit", says the support guy. Well the TM looks at this POS and says, you can't quit!! If you stop here you'll just die. This isn't a game, this is life.

It's amazing how much of a motivational effect that SEAL class 234 on the discovery channel has had on me, particularly in harsh weather conditions. I've had to change a tire in a raging downpour and had to walk 2 miles, again in the rain, from a distant train station because I slept past my stop. That discovery channel show taught me 2 things... 1st, there's always someone wetter, colder, and in more mud than me. 2nd, always carry a few ziplock bags in your jacket so you can keep your valuables dry. :)

I'm just an old squirrel trying to get a nut, but it seems some of the youngsters on this forum really get caught up in the give and take and don't have the emotional wherewithal to deal with ego-deflating responses. They, seemingly, can't handle interpersonal contact be it on the web or in person. Of course, I'm not a shrink and have no reason to assume that these kids need help, but some of them seem to be reaching out for virtual friendship and acceptance, something no forum can provide. I just hope they fail their initial psych screening if they plan on enlisting because I wouldn't want them in any branch of the service.
