SkyNews had video of an HQ briefing showing a combat drop to take an airfield. I guess the 82nd and 101st are starting to get some face time.

Sorry Cut, you're wrong. That was definetely troops being dropped in a unknown location as reported by CNN.

SkyNews stated it was US troops (I didn't see the actual briefing though).

hmm maybe it's different footage then, because I remember them saying it was supplies and it seems strange to have jumps in an area which is totally safe, surely it's safer using a helo and not worth the risk of injuring a trooper in a jump. I suppose could have been a practise.

SkyNews always get news first, but it means that they often get it wrong.
they said a airman was definately down and captured in baghdad, which was just a rumour.

A brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division and the 173rd Airborne Brigade are both being moved into northern Iraq. Rangers and SF ODA's have also conducted drops in western Iraq.

There was an airdrop and they did capture an airfield. The 173rd Airborne Brigade executed it. Over 1000 troops used.

THE 101ST DOES NOT JUMP. THEY ARE AN AIR ASSAULT UNIT ONLY.

Who said anything about the 101?

It was supposedly the 173rd, who also had a low level jump in VietNam in the mid 1960's, I can't remember exactly when.

Airborne all the way!

Hooah! p-)

the way i heard it was that 1000 paratroopers from the 173nd in Italy jumped in and secured the airfield. They then started flying in heavy equipment and more troops with the C-17's and -130's.
