Can't beat a Ruger 10/22. They are super reliable, require very little maintainance, are easy to customize if that's your thing, are as cheap as it gets to shoot, hi capacity mags are readily available and cheap with the sunset of the AWB, and they are a blast.

Agreed, the Ruger 10/22 is a great little rifle. Lots of options for customisation either fun or target, accurate and cheap to run.

No gun safe is complete without one, in my opinion.

Ruger 10/22. reliable, affordable, upgradable, and fun to shoot. It is an awesome first gun. And ammo is really cheap. A 10/22 was my first gun and I still use it today after many years.

what kind of optics can be mounted on the ruger

since range and accury is a big deal to me

I believe 10/22s come drilled for a Weaver mount. Mine did.

So its pretty much the sky is the limit for optics.

I have this one.

The cheapest most basic model.

Accurate, reliable, and a fun target shooter.

It also turned in much reliable service de-groundhoging many the corn field.

Ruger 10/22. Mine was a gift from my girlfriend at the time. I still have a lot of fun with it after owning it for almost 20 years. Don't know what happened to the girlfriend, though.

I have a pre-weapons ban folding stock and a three power scope. When zeroed in, it can drive nails at close range, and reliably hit a target at maximum range for a .22, which is about 100 meters for my old eyes ;)

Great squirrel gun, too.

The 10/22s go on sale frequently at places like Walmart or Bimart. Keep an eye on the ads for the next couple of weeks. I would think you would be able to get one closer to $150. Can't remember what I payed for mine, but I've had it for 4 or 5 years.

For accesories check here: www.clipsnstuff.com

I haven't been keeping up with his prices so I can't vouch for how good a deal he is currently, but he is usually competetive. Dave lives a few blocks from my parents home and is definitely good people. He runs a shop out of his renovated garage. Used to pull weeds for his wife in fact.
