Any Infos about French's in Hammelburg? Was it good for them? Have they fun? A friend of mine was there when some french units wer there too. But it would be interesting to hear what the french say about hammelburg and german bundeswehr.

The german army practise with a system called 'AGDUS' (Ausbildungsgerät Duell-Simulator -> Practise-equitment Duell-Simulator), it is like miles onlay a bit newer.

The vehicle is the new SOCOM Helo transportable tactical vehicle. You can see the lettering near the bottom of the side panel, with the SOCOM logo at the end under the driver.

At first we had the old Miles system, after a couple of years the bundeswehr bought the german AGDUS-System - it was newer (I think it will be like the new MILES-System) and home-made.

The French army has been going to Hammelburg since at least 1994; the lieutenants from the infantry school as well as infantry company go there.

I went to Hammelburg twice and I liked it.

The main problem was that every time I was there, at least 1/3rd of the village was being refurbished and could not be used for training. The rules of use are also very strict and a lot of time is spent policing the place (which is the only way to keep it tidy) but it takes its toll on training time.

I loved the urban assault course which is run through houses and barns, especially the big jump in the dark in a pitch black barn.

The forest courses were also good, as well as the "demonstration" units and courses.

All together I loved it and I even prefered the time spent in brewery in Wurzburg during the weekend with German soldiers...they were especially astonished when we sang "Westerwald" and "Anne Marie" in German !

Are there any Hammelburg-like-Schools in France? Any Exchanges besides that from hamelburg? German Soldiers in France?

fantassin
03-06-2005, 05:23 AM
oh yes !

There was one or several Germans in most of the courses I have done in the French army.

There is now the Franco-German Tiger helicopter school (EFA) in Le Luc in Southern France, there are German exchange officers in many French HQs, there is a German Navy officer attached to the French amphibious HQ in Toulon to study amphibious Ops, of course there is the Franco-German Brigade, the Eurocorps, exchanges with the officers schools of all services...There is also the Colibri airborne exercises every two years.

France is creating a new MOUT centre called the CENZUB in Sissonne in the North East of the country; it is in its infancy right now but it will evolve in a village which can accomodate a BG when finished.

France also uses the British MOUT centres in Catterick, Longmoor and Sennybridge as well as the Dutch one in Marnehuizen.

I think the use of the GUZ in Germany, which is a truly awesome training centre, would be a good idea for France.

How the french soldiers like the german equitment (G36/MG3)?

fantassin

The first time I went to Hammelburg, the "future" German weapons were shown to us, including a rifle which was then called the "HK50"...it then, a few years latter, was called the "G36"...there was also the USP and the LMG version of the HK50 on presentation.

I got the "schutzenschnur" (sp?) in Bronze when I first went to Hammelburg so I can tell you what I liked;

G3 : liked it but we used both the fixed and telescopic stocks versions and I thought the telescopic stock wasn't comfortable on your cheek when firing. Also, it was very cumbersome in MOUT

MG3: loved it, much better than the ANF1; tremendous rate of fire !

Panzerfaust 3: fired two rounds, got two hits, so must be good !

GraPi: very good (in use by French SF BTW...) and accurate

Uzi: did not like it, much prefer the MP5s we use

P1: OK, old, but reliable

G36: wasn't available to shoot when I was there

I didn´t like the Uzi too. It fired when saved, it fired single shots when on automatic and it fired several round when on single shoot modus. Total unreliable.

No I'm not heated, just wondering. I mean it seems like half this board has an inferiority complex and so its EXTREMELY difficult to believe anything. And I do understand that ROTC sucks. Every enlisted man I've talked to says that his ROTC officers are ****heads, but what can you do, The military needs leaders, ROTC gives them leaders.

Yes they seem to be spanish. Look at the G36, it's the Export version with scope only so they can't be German. Also look at the right one of the soldiers who carring the litter, it seems he has a spanish flag on his shoulder.
