Post your pics of destroyed tanks from 2003 here. Take a guess on how they met their demise. These are my photos so no stealing. I'll put a few American and a few Iraqi although I saw 100's more Iraqi ones.

To my knowledge, most of the Abrams destroyed were actually destroyed by friendly bombs after being disabled and left behind as the front advanced.

Was this the result of a land mine or an iraki tank ?

From what I've heard all of those Abrams were destroyed by friendly bombing after they broke down or were disabled. None were destroyed due to enemy action.

The ones one the photo's might indeed be destroyed by friendly forces. But a few were destroyed by Iraqi's. One on the assault on Baghdad, one was hit by an IED, ect.
Some were also destroyed when enemy rockets (or other munitions) set fire to the gear and stuff packed on the rear of the turret. THe flames than leaked to the engine and destroyed the tank. A very silly way to loose a tank, but this is one of things that really needs to be worked on.

Anyone got any pictures of armour that has been knocked out by sabot rounds that you can clearly see the penatration from the round. I would also like to see any pictures where you can see the penatration hole be it from HEAT tank rounds, ani tank guns or even anti tank rifiles circa WW2, thanks alot :D

Define destroyed.
There have been something like 5-7 M1xx tanks knocked out of action in OIF by enemy fire. It has usually been RPGs fired into the engine deck, causing a fire. There have been 2 cases were an RPG has hit the turret ring and penetrated but causing only minimal injuries to the crew.
Did Iraqi even use their 40 year old army of T tanks? Or were they all used for target practice by US?
Types are Chinese, T's are Russians incase someone is confused

Unless it was knocked out in sabotage after it was disabled..

Nice pics. Would it be cool to see a line up of M1A1 and M1A2 getting various weapons tested on them? p-)

From what i understand, most were DISABLED by IED's and for whatever reason, the Army decided to go ahead and destroy the tanks rather than leave anything for the insurgents. I'm sure those nice holes in the side are from some M1A1 rounds shot into it. More than likely DU rounds, HEAT holes are generally smaller from the gas passing through it.

Dunno about the other two, but IIRC the left one is a type 69, which you can tell due to the saw tooth .. wheel cover thing. man i'm getting rusty with this stuff.

The israeli's had these guys bury 300kgs of explosives under a road, detonated when a merkava went over it. Totally flipped the thing. I think some of the crew survived but unfortunately i think the driver died. :(
So yes, you need a pretty big IED to take out a tank, they're not really efficient at destroying armour.

Well, a normal antitank mine is 10kg. It maybe doesn't destroy heavy modern MBT, but will cause in every case some serious damage, and it is just a simple chunk of explosives.

Here's a picture I took outside of Basra. You can tell it's early because the powerlines haven't been looted yet.
