FORT WORTH, Texas - Police are being warned that a Texas-based white supremacist gang may be planning to kill law enforcement officers after the arrests of several of its high-ranking members.

A federal anti-terrorism bulletin issued Friday said information had been obtained indicating that "members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas (ABT) are threatening to kill or injure law-enforcement officers ... in Texas and in areas where the ABT are known to reside.

"This information can be considered credible; therefore, it is advisable to approach these individuals with caution," said the memo, dispatched by the Anti-Terrorism Advisory Council, a division of the U.S. attorney's regional offices in Tyler.

The Aryan Brotherhood is a nationwide hate organization, first established in 1967 as a prison gang within the San Quentin penitentiary in California. The group "maintains a working relationship with the Mexican Mafia," according to the Florida Department of Corrections, and many of its members are "in custody for crimes such as robbery."

The memo about the Aryan Brotherhood's Texas chapter comes less than a month after authorities in South Texas arrested a suspected leader of a deadly gang with roots in Central America, referred to as "MS-13." The gang is believed responsible for a December terrorist attack that killed 28 people in Honduras.

There is no indication, according to the recent police bulletin, that the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas has connections to MS-13, which is suspected of building its presence in Texas and elsewhere in the United States.

There has been no mention of the Aryan Brotherhood having any involvement in the slayings this week of a U.S. district judge's husband and mother in Chicago. But police are investigating whether a different white supremacist group was involved in those slayings. The bulletin said several members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas have recently been taken into custody.
