A former U.S. Marine who participated in capturing ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein said the public version of his capture was fabricated.
Ex-Sgt. Nadim Abou Rabeh, of Lebanese descent, was quoted in the Saudi daily al-Medina Wednesday as saying Saddam was actually captured Friday, Dec. 12, 2003, and not the day after, as announced by the U.S. Army.
"I was among the 20-man unit, including eight of Arab descent, who searched for Saddam for three days in the area of Dour near Tikrit, and we found him in a modest home in a small village and not in a hole as announced," Abou Rabeh said.
"We captured him after fierce resistance during which a Marine of Sudanese origin was killed," he said.
He said Saddam himself fired at them with a gun from the window of a room on the second floor. Then they shouted at him in Arabic: "You have to surrender. ... There is no point in resisting."
"Later on, a military production team fabricated the film of Saddam's capture in a hole, which was in fact a deserted well," Abou Rabeh said.
Abou Rabeh was interviewed in Lebanon.
What the hell is wrong with Marines from Lebanon?.

They just can't believe that a fathom how a Arab leader could be found hiding in a spider hole like a bitch. There's probably no such Marine.

What? Arab press baised and unreliable? Don't you know the Lebanese Marine was trying to convince him to surrender so he wouldn't get his organs harvested?
I might not dismiss it off-hand except for:
which was in fact a deserted wellThe hole is real and has been well documented by jounalists who have been there since. CNN's Nick Robertson actually went inside the hole with a camera not too long after Saddam was captured.

no doubt...this guy sounds fictional...ex-Sgt it says...
There is a serious whiff of "bull" off this one, if this guy does exist, he probably said it to try and prevent the locals from killing him in the leb, for being in the american military.

If he had fired a weapon at Marines from a second floor window, chances are the entire second floor would end up on the first floor and Sadaam would have been well ventilated.

Thing is...
I was under the impression that the US Army captured him, not the USMC?.
And if so why don't these reporters check thier sources before looking like A**holes in front of the rest of the world.

I don't know if that story is true or not and frankly, I don't care too much. But without doubt, the released film material of Saddam after his capture (the medical inquiry) was carefully selected to make him look inoffensive or even degraded.

My Army recruiter had personal pictures with his unit of the foxhole where Saddam is said to have been found. It looked like a foxhole and nothing like a 'well' that this Lebanese Marine speaks of. I forgot to ask my recruiter if he was in one of the units that were there for the actual 'capture', but I know he was in Iraq for a year.

What would be the point of staging a capture. The u see pulling him out of the hole is the pistures was an iraqi transdlator and has been interviewed on tv many times. I find it retarted that someone would make up a story that stupid. Why would the US have him be fake captured again.

I concur
But remember it was nessessary to convice the Iraqi people that "Uncle" Saddam could'nt was'nt going to return from the shawdows and come back to power....you can't under estimate the grip of fear he held over the Iraqi people.
Plus it was much better than showing him off looking like a dignified head of state ( which he never was ) in a 3 piece suit.

You sir should have a golden shower of piss on you, Saddam was a horrible dictator who murdered people just because they wanted to be free something you take for granted everday. Than you say we "degraded" him, well I have news for you he did that himself by hiding
in a 6-to-8 foot deep "spider hole" like a small child cowering from the judgement he had to face of the many years he raped, murdered, and pillaged his own people and other innocents.

While the story reeks of BS, you chose a bad part to single out and criticize.

I heard theyactually found sadaam the day before that and he wasn't hiding but enjoying a lavish life in an exact replica of the whitehouse, drawing up plans to push the evil american forces into the sea.
Actually it was Andy Mcnab who caught Saddam. Only after he fought off 10,000 robo-ninjas did he finally subdue Saddam, who at the time was in an ATAT.

Wow what a messed up site, here he claims that... Indonesian Government in Jakarta became involved and called urgently for further details about the nuclear device. And so it was that by 10 a.m. on 7th November, the ludicrous Australian-American myth about “Jemaah Islamiyah” and “al Qaeda” attacking Bali, was rapidly starting to unravel across Indonesia. :cantbeli:
