Three well known artists on a visit to Paris;
from the left: Albert Speer, architect, Adolf Hitler, painter, Arno Brecker, sculptor.
Paris, the city of light, has always been a magnet for all kinds of artists.
I suppose art is a concept you can't grasp so I wont try to explain.

So wait, you're telling me the ENTIRE invasion of France was based on the fact that it was a nice country?

Nice is a very weak word; but it wasn't all that nice for the 94 000 french soldiers, 3 500 british soldiers and 27 000 German soldiers who died in the 6 weeks following the 10th of May 1940 in the battle of France.
But Hitler was genuinely fascinated with France and Paris, his goal being to try and surpass the beauty of Paris by rebuilding Berlin entirely.
If you don't believe me and can read, try "Inside the IIIrd reich" by Albert Speer. Enlightening.
BTW, over 600 000 French soldiers and civilians died during WW2.

Wasn't Hitler so facinated by Paris that he ordered it burnt to the ground before the Allies could retake it for the Free French?
I think I read the German garrison commander refused.....I bet his 18 French mistresses showed their appreciation for that kind gesture ;)

General Von Choltitz just knew what was good for him...and the mistresses were getting ready for the Americans after having had their head shaven for "horizontal collaboration".
Never heard of the "war brides?"

The friggin' guy saved Paris.......he deserved at least one last root from his French mistresses before they got ready for the GI horde.
