my town is about 15-20 minutes south of boston.....every once in a while a store will get robbed, or someone will get mugged or soemthing, but the worst problem we have is the drug problem.

Its pretty safe in my city, except for the north side. Downtown is iffy...lots of bums and drunks there. But anywhere else is safe. Only time I'll be at risk out in the middle of the night is when Im on my run...but Im sure I can out run all them muggers. Either that or Im on a bike or driving.

Good for you people....A drunk man was mugged and stabbed to death just two blocks away from my apartment two nights ago, and a high school girl killed herself by falling off a 20-story apartment last night.

I gotta get out of this fxxxing town soon and find a home somewhere in Kwacheon.

It's safe to walk around at night where I live, but you do have to watch your step. Whenever I wander the streets at night, I'm constantly stumbling over all the fat bastards who have collapsed from O.D.'ing on McDonalds and Milwaukee's Best Ice Light. Then there are the riots that sometimes erupt at Burger King. One time they ran out of bacon and Swiss cheese and the fatties started a stampede...several children were trampled to death. I guess it's better to go out that way rather than live to a ripe old 35 and die on the operating table undergoing angioplasty...

trigger rofl , i was in a pellet gun shootout, they opened fire on us when my friend leaned out the window and yelled "nice hotwheels ****ers!", and it was dark and they opened fire, (didn't know they had pellet guns because we couldn't see) i took one in the arm, and my friends windows were shot out. that's about as violent as it gets here.

Im originally from Ottawa and its pretty safe over there although you do have to watch where you go at night because there are still alot of muggings and stuff. Most of it is gang-related. But now i live in NYC. In NYC as long as you know where the **** your going and how the **** you gonna get there, then you can usually avoid the bad areas. In my neighbourhood theres alot of muggings and even some shooting, but ive never been witness to any. And in my life only once did someone try to mug me and they slipped and fell when they jumped out at me and i just walked away. Stupid ****ers. :)

Yeah, this is an important point. I don't think young women should walk alone at night in ANY town. This isn't patriarchy or paternalism, it's just good self-defense strategy. Even in the quietest of towns, where nobody gets mugged, women get raped.

Claremont, Western Australia.

Just up the road from the S.A.S.R Base.

Not the best place to walk around at night, if you go down into the town you will quite possibly either be:

a) "Ganked" a.k.a Mugged, by the local wiggers.
b) Beat up by drunks (A lot of pubs down there)
c) Kidnapped, raped and killed

We had about 7 blonde girls taken a couple of years ago, never found the killer.

Can't wait to move to somewhere else.

Yeah, its completely OK to crawl home at 4am if you cant walk.

Once i lost my cell phone here. Someone found it, called my friend and i got it back in some 40 minutes.

But there is something thats not safe here, bicycles. All those drunks in 4am will think in middle of the night that "it would be easier to cycle home". So they pick up the first they get.

Perfectly safe. There used to be a "frisk search zone" in this town (where the police could search you or your car without evidence/probable cause) because there were (too many) guns and knives in the night life. But these days you can go a week without seeing a single police officer.

AFAIK there aren't any bikers (Hell's Angel's, Bandidos) or any immigrant gangs to speak of here, so (serious) violence is getting rare. But of course if you go to a night club you might risk slap around from one of the many farmers/rednecks/hillbillies, whatever you want to call them...

Is it safe to stroll all by yourself, in the middle of the night, in your towns?

Hmm...I usually bike at night, as walking leads to conversations with strangers. I don't like strangers in my neighborhood.

The last time I was out, I got eyeballed and scoffed at by three prostitutes. There is usually some guy saying "I got that weed, playa" if I am too slow around certain corners. Some guy called me a "popcorny azzed biatch" because I would not give him money. Some kid told me I had a nice bike, then told me "step to me if you want that beef, playa" and that I was a "biatch neega."

My block is pretty good. I walk around the alley with a baseball bat for the heck of it and my neighbors have informed me that if they see trouble on our block, they will "step up like a man and put a hot one in anyone that messes with mine."

It sounds worse than it is. The key to having balance among such filth is to have equally weird neighbors on the other side of the fence. We live next to a compound of jehovah's witnesses who report the slightest infraction or nuisance to the city and there is someone down the alley who informed me she will "call the police on anyone with an Obama sticker."

Back in Poland I lived in a small town. Population about 30k. yeah it was pretty safe to stroll around. There was one neighborhood that I always avoided though. It was known to be resided by the poorest and most criminals. Though in a daylight it was still safe to walk through it.

Now I live in New York City, ( Brooklyn). I live between two neighborhoods, that are pretty safe. They are full of hipsters, so most you will be just assaulted with their dreadful sense of fashion of stupidity. Cafes are open till late in the night( or morning to be more technical). There are occasional shootings that get reported in the local newspaper, but it seems that it's either related to some gang activity that happens to seep into the edges of the neighborhood.

Most parts of Manhattan are pretty safe too. I am weary of going into Chinatown and other dodgy neighborhoods such as Harlem and the borough of Bronx.

Very safe, but some random drunk tried to come in my front door about two nights ago at 2 AM to borrow my phone. I woke up hearing the banging on the door and yelled back out at him to see what was up. He said his truck broke down on the next big street over and could I call his girl for him to come pick him up. I'm pretty sure he was out driving a four wheel pickup in the nearby hills and cracked it up and eventually wandered down the dirt road that snakes up into the hills above the subdivision. Eventually I got that "call the girlfriend" task accomplished and he wandered away, but I was very very glad I hadn't accidentally left the front door unlocked. I seem to do that about once a year.
