I am looking for a way (if one exists) to relate the explosive force of RPG rounds to a quantity of C4 explosive.

Thanks
Al

I'm sure you can do it with some formula i'm sure I once learned in chemistry, but that is a real oddball question.

If you just want to compare the relative explosive power*, then they will be roughly the same.

If you are interested, I can elaborate on this when I have time.

* i.e. the total amount of energy released from the detonation of a given mass of explosive.

An RPG-7 has a 40mm grenade which 2.25 kg.

The launch tube diameter is that 40mm, the warhead diameter is from 85 to 105mm depending of the type IIRC.

Yes.

I think it is very difficult to compare the round to normal C4 if you want to take into account the directed energy of the shaped charge.

Well 2,25 kg C4 would be 2.025 kg Cyclotrimethylentrinitramin and 225g Polyisobuthylen.
2.025 kg (Cyclotrimethylentrinitramin) = 2822,85 kJ

Let's say the warhead is made out of 2.25kg of Tetryl probably with additional Aluminium.

2.25kg (Tetryl) = 2700kJ

C4 is about 4,5 % more powerfull than the same amount of Tetryl.

Anyone knows excatly what's in a RPG Warhead?

Depends upon which round you are talking about...

PG-7V, PG-7VM, PG-7VS, PG-7VL, PG-7VR.

The 40mm anti personel round is called OG-7V.

The new Thermobaric rounds are designated TBG-7V.
