At last the Icelandic coast guard flagship turns 30 years old.
It was made in 1975 incidentally and they are having a birthdayparty for it today.
All hail the Icelandic coast guard

40 mm Bofors L60 MK 3
The rest is a state secret or something.

they also used this blank firing cannon to salute the Murmansk, a russian patrol vessel which has double 75mm autocannon in front...
one more state secret:

All of our coast guard ships since 1920 have nordic names.
We have a V/S Óðinn, V/S Ægir and a M/s Baldur operating at the moment. Then there is the V/S Þór which is to become a floating 'Cod War' museum in the river Thames, after having been a resturant and a discoteque.

Sadly no. They are always cutting down the official days off. Our "semi-independence" day isn't even a day off any longer.

Yes its only 71 metres. Back in the days of yore when it was made it was considered big enough though. But hopefully we'll soon get a slightly large ship, and the plan to do that has now been slightly accelerated now that the Coast guard acquired a new leader.
And pretty soon V/S Týr and V/S Ægir will be modernized a bit in Poland.
