I've only used Kimbers, COlts, Springfields, and a Para Ordnance.

I haven't used all the ones on that list.

I carry a Kimber, but I also own two Colts. I plan to own more.

How do you like the Springfields ?

-Les Baer for paper-punching
-Wilson Combat for the same as above, and maybe for combat, but I've yet to be in combat so I'm not qualified to answer with 100% honesty.
-Para Ordnance for concealed carry.
-Springfield for... everything, really!
-Kimber? Same as above.
-Colt: Over-rated from my experience. Absolutely nothing wrong, just too much cash for a poor guy like me.

Who else now?

It shot when I wanted it to, but it's been years. My Kimber was better out of the box than my Colt with a trigger job and aftermarket parts.

I would love to own a Wilson, but they are out of my price range. For the time being, I'm content with my Springfield. I've owned it since 1987, and it has been a great pistol.

Well, from what I hear the Wilson and Kimber ones are the best, but I've personally only handled and fired a WWII vintage Colt model, and it was pretty badass, and seeing as that's the only one I have personal experience with I put my vote there.

Quick question about the MEU(SOC) 1911's: How are they issued? Is it just to Force Recon or do Recon and even regular grunts get some, too?

How is Springfield for reliability?

TacoDelRio

SA reliability: Have heard nothing bad. Some feed ramps needed polishing for better feeding, but more on their XD line than their 1911A1's.

1)Kimber
2)Colt
& I don't like para Ord

In the 17 years that I've had my Springfield, it has jammed perhaps once or twice. I can live with that. I have yet to get the feed ramp polished. The only customizing I've had done to it is a Wilson 3.5 lb trigger, extended thumb safety, sights, and pachmayr grips. There are a few other things I'd like to do to it: get a Bar-sto barrel, new sights, and maybe a commander-style hammer and beavertail grip safety.

from the more affordable spectrum id have to say springfield. forged frames, less MIM parts compared to kimber(and sa has a superior MIM process as well), along with more features without the troublesome external extractorand the series two safety found on kimbers with a better customer service department then colt and kimber to top it off.

so i voted for SA.

i honestly think that while kimbers are great guns, there is a fair bit of hype around them.

I have a Para Ordance 16.40 Ltd Stainless.

Love it.

I agree with Rob about the Kimber hype. I've competed in pistol matches against guys with Kimbers, and their pistols did great, but I think a lot of that had to do with the shooters!

My first .45 was a used 1970's Colt Gold Cup National Match - and it was the nicest 1911 I ever shot. In the meanwhile I moved away from the 1911 family altogether, but I still have a weak spot for Colt

Para-Ordnance P14.45

Had it for 15 years, never a problem..

My Kimber is a Series I with an extractor just like every other M1911. I haven't used one of those newr types.

Maybe I got lucky with my Kimber, but I can assure you that it isn't hype. ;)

I voted for Springfield.

Why? Anyone can buy one without dropping a grand or more and they are reliable.

Edit: I am an absolute Wilson whore though. ;)

How peculiar... lookie what I picked up in a flight of fancy today:

http://www.gunshopfinder.com/springfield/PC9105L.jpg

I got it used... very good condition, just over 600 rounds fired. Excellent price for an excellent gun. Naturally mine does not have an M6 on it as the one in the picture but otherwise it is just the same, factory stock...

I hope to add Wilson mags, extractor, and add the Surefire X200 to it whenever it arrives.... (still waiting for the damn thing...) Now I just need a nice holster for it.

ETA: I did fire it today, by the way. Put five mags worth downrange. No hiccups, very nice trigger pull for a stock handgun, no creep as far as I could tell (have to try it a few more times) and amazingly light recoil for a 1911. Probably because the gun is incredibly heavy due to the full length dustcover. Love the sights... very nice mounting method...

Springfiled Armory, definitely.

I got this a few months ago. Good choice Recidivist. ;)

Out of the box I have always been impressed with the Para.

I'm a big fan of 1911 frames.....they're ALL good, some are just better than others! ;)

It's not on the list, but STI make some pretty good 1911. The double stack ones are 2011.

I chose the SW 1911 for the reliability proven by other guns i own from this brand. I never owned any other 1911 because Colts have prohibitive costs here in Italy (something like 40-50% more than you pay in the United States). I'd always loved to own a G.I. 1911.
My choice fell on the SW 1911 because of my past experience and the competitive import price. second choice would have been a Springfield Trophy Match. the other brands you mentioned are all known to me, but not affordable, unless i reborn in your beautiful country...here they are all sold at prices largely exceeding 2000 USD...
