Hardly the best rifle... just an SLR (FN FAL) in 5.56mm NATO.

The AK5 it's an FN FNC built under license (with minor changes) in Sweden.

I still prefer 7.62mm standard for rifles. 5.56mm NATO standard is not as effective over long ranges(still very lethal ;)). With the evolving battlefield(longer ranges) and improving body armor 5.56mm will be very hampered in its smaller case with less room for improvements, rather than the 7.62mm standard which has remained unchanged since the 50's which is still very effective and has much more room for improvement. 5.56mm outperforms the 7.62mm standard right now, but throw some money at both and you can be sure that 7.62mm will become a better standard than 5.56.

heh, as you can see, I really like my Russian SKS even if it is just a 7.62x39 package ;)

Perhaps instead of a 20mm grenade launcher and a 5.56mm assault rifle the OICW should just have a 7.62mm (or 30-06) single shot rifle with ballistic computer and Thermal scope and a 5.56mm SMG mounted underneath it for close in fire.

What can a 20mm grenade do that a 25mm bushmaster or 30mm Rarden can't do. A Bradley and a Warrior can carry more ammo than a grunt can anyway.
