A small plane searching for the three American hostages in Colombia taken captive after their plane went down, crashed killing all three American 'contractors' onboard.
At least it is good to see that we are not leaving those guys behind.

Thanks for the update, even though it is more bad news. Those guys have been somewhat forgotten as a consequence of current events. Keep us posted - I appreciate your well-informed posts.

the media has forgotten them, but the folks on the ground are very much still in the game to find them. All the crashes up to this point have been confined to one particular contractor. That has raised a red flag.
The other problem with Columbia is that there's so many double-agents it's not funny. One has to ask if an inside man sabotaged the plane, or gave information of where it was going to fly, to the rebels.

Could anybody explain to me what is exactly meant by 'contractor?' Are these guys really private agency types hired by our government to work in Columbia? What types of companies are they, and what do they typically do? Thanks.

A 'contractor' - synonym for a international security consultant, a military advisor, et al. If you want to be rude, a mercenary; A private soldier not directly in the employ of a national army or government.
DynCorp - www.dyncorp.com - is quite possibly the company involved with the aircraft shot down. They've had operations in Columbia before.
You can read a little more of them in the February 2003 issue of Wired Magazine, the article is archived here;

Hope it helps.

Neither plane that crashed were Dyncorp planes.

I'll be honest, I haven't paid attention to which company was named to have owned or operated the 'contractor' aircraft. Which was it?

Right....... ;)
Psywar has said too much. Alot of you guys think this is a joke, but it isn't. Folks working overseas have families, families who want to see them come home alive. We put them (and their families) at risk the more we tell about what our guys do, who they do it for and how they do it. I see stuff on here and I really have to smile, because you get it wrong, and that makes me very happy. If you were supposed to know, you would.

I agree to a large extent with what you are saying but my point is- why mention it at all??? If this guy really is on the circuit and doing keeni meeni stuff for a contractor then why mention it? I wouldn't and I can guarantee real hardcore folks wouldn't either.

Don't worry. I will chastise Psywar next time I talk to him. It is sometimes hard to bite your tongue. Notice, I only talk about gear? There are reasons...all mentioned above.

It's interesting to make the guess, the only way to know for sure is for me to be there. Even then, nothing would be for certain. I know that, and so do you.

My Buddy Works for Dyncorp, He was in Columbia several months ago, now he is in Jordan. Dyncorp is a civilian contractor that works alongside units providing maintenence. My Buddy is an ex Nightstalker Crewchief. But now he does avionics on RC-12's (basically a flying anntenna) If you knew what these guys can intercept, it would freak you out to no end. Dyncorp does not employ or contract out combatants.
