Well, My sister is looking to buy a house as soon as her husband comes back from Iraq. They both like Florida, Texas and Minnesota. I ask her choose Minnesota since it's Nice cold at times, Of course they will choose what they feel. I would choose and look first into Minnesota. Nice cool weather over hot and sticky icky ones in my book but FL and Tex is good too... Hard choice..

Stupid poll topic, I know. I want to hear which one of these states you would choose.

Ping! Ping! Ping! Let's get it on!

Hope her husband is coming back soon Stormy  i wish all the best for them!

That is not true....last year was an anamoly...that was the first time hurricanes had directly hit florida in years (almost a decade). And depending what part of texas you go to hurricanes can hit there as well, the Houston and Galveston area gets hit a lot. and if you move to northern texas you have to worry about tornadoes...

Stormy

That is correct Ronin, I forgot about that.
Texas or a part of Texas is in Tornado Valley, That's what they call it.

Texas because I've lived in FL long enough, and honestly, it's not all that great. Texas is at least nicer to firearm owners in terms of shooting ranges.

I've lived in Texas and Florida. The one thing Texas has that Florida does not is pride (Not too many people I met were native, maybe why?). I guess that's why you don't hear people talking about the "arrogant Floridian".

I hate all 3 of those.

TEXAS: You shouldn't have to ask.
MINNESOTA: Who the flip lives there anyway?
FLORIDA: Everyone's old and retired, and old.

Texas, of course. My sister lives in Austin, and besides, Texas is like it's own country.

Minnesota--nice people, but the accents would drive me crazy. Plus, they'd probably hate my accent.

Florida--ehhhh, I'm just gonna say I wouldn't live there if you paid me with chocolate money and naked men.

Skip Florida - I live in Orlando and the closest thing to culture we have here is in Atlanta, unless you like Mickey Mouse shoved down your throat. The weather sucks too - it actually rains a lot more than it's sunny here. From May - October the temperature hits about 90-95 with 100% humidity... it sucks.

Minnesota - I used to spend summer up near the Canadian border. Good place if you like hunting and fishing, but winters can suck. Still... I like it up there, but I'm from Chicago originally so the climate suits me better. :)

Texas - I can't say I've had much experience with it, but of the three it's the place I'd most like to live, I think. But I like deserts and arid environments like in west Texas - plus there are a lots of big cities to do stuff in and around. In my experience, the weather isn't too bad - often hot and dry (better than hot and humid, IMHO) and occasional spectacular thuderstorms. Texans as a people aren't too bad, either IMHO. You could do a lot worse than having a Texan as a neighbor.

Stormy
03-23-2005, 03:51 PM
I don't mind all 3
I like cold weather though, Minnestoa is it...
I got a cousin that is making his house now in Texas, So, I could visit Texas anytime... Hope she choose MINN

Ria

Jeez...Florida's gettin some bad rap here. I like Florida  It just depends on where you go (like anywhere, of course).

ElHombre

Minnesota--nice people, but the accents would drive me crazy.

lord knows texans speak fluent english. ;)

if you move down to texas live in either austin or san antonio. from there it's a short hop down to the coast. (corpus christi is very nice. :) ) if you want to see a piece of history visit the presidio at goliad instead of the alamo. the goliad one is far more fun and doesn't have the air of reverence that stifles the alamo. (i had ancestors who fought in the txas revolution so any complaints about heresy can stuff it. )

don't move to dallas unless you hate breathing. there's some all-but-unregulated factories to the south and all they do is blow their crap north to us. i've heard 'i never had a problem with allergies until i moved to dallas' far too many times. houston is even worse. ;)

the food here is superb. BBQ, tex-mex, and grilling is practically a religion. we pioneered dive-through beer stores. 'nuff said. check out the town of new braunsfels (just north of austin). it's a slice of germany right in the heart of texas.

austin is also the live music capital of the world. (running joke: 'what's the first thing you do if you want to be a sucessful dallas musician? move to austin.')

texas is also the nicest place in the US. we send our biggest a$$holes to washington (paging tom delay...).

the downside. texas govt. the folks up in austin work only part-time and are paid to match (one legislator was able to recive food stamps on his pay. i am not making this up.) they meet every two years and it's a tragic comedy every time. there is no state income tax but wait 'till you see the property and sales taxes (the leg wants to raise them even further on people who make less than $100k a year. those over that would see their taxes drop.) not too mention that most state services are chronically underfunded.

don't even mention the pollution. *hack-hack*

New Braunsfels is great. I bet you've been to Schittlerbahn and Gruene Hall? Houston's weather is either superb or horrible, and it varies from minute to minute, literally. As Elhombre said, we've got the best food and Houston is as diverse as LA/Chicago/NYC so you've got every type of food and person. I'd recommend living in San Antonio, Austin, or Houston and their surrounding areas (NOT Tom DeLay's Sugarland though). Plus, Texas has the prettiest girls in the Union  No state income tax either woot

Spring, summer, and fall you hunt, fish, BBQ and enjoy the beautiful outdoors, with nice weather, and in the winter you go to Texas, Florida, or, like me, find a nice Lady and screw all winter. It works for me.

It's good to have a few nice young ladies in every city and every state.

James
03-23-2005, 09:05 PM
Most Texans I've known were quite nationalistic about being from TX, and seemed a bit surprised when non-Texans weren't impressed. What follows was typical amongst young grunts in the USMC:

"I'm from Texas, dude."
"Uh, great. :| I'm from Washington."
"I said I was from Texas."
"Yeah, I heard you. No one cares."
"Don't mess with Texas."
"I wouldn't choose to ever get close enough to mess with Texas."
"What does that mean? I'll kick your ass like we did at the Alamo."
"You realize that the Mexicans killed everyone at the Alamo, right?"
"**** you! Are you saying Mexico is better than Texas?"
"Nevermind."
"That's right bitch. Northerners. Dumbasses."
"Actually, I was born in South Carolina, and I happen to know that you were born on an Air Force base in Germany, so don't talk to me about being from the south. You're not a real Texan, just a wannabe."

At this point mild fisticuffs would ensue.
