I would have to say that it depends on the model of gun, which lever-action and which semi-auto are you talking about?

the leveraction is a henry .22
the autoloader is the ruger 10/22

Mate, haven't a clue about the weapon systems....
Just one question, is Ira your name (or a nickname)?
Or is your username supposed to be IRA...
...just wondering, as you might get some stick off the brits in the forum for that username. Perhaps some clarification would be helpful. (for example, I chose not to have 'Al Quaeda' as my username ;) )
Thanks.

Sabre, my guess is that he doesn't even know who the IRA are. :)
Definition of the IRA for ira:
Irish Republican Army: a militant organization of Irish nationalists who used terrorism and guerilla warfare in an effort to drive British forces from Northern Ireland and achieve a united independent Ireland.

Oh i know what the IRA is and i use that name because i love irish history
and because i am irish and i support a united ireland even if its by force but i hope that never comes. Also i do not believe the british should be in northern ireland.
I DO NOT SUPPORT THEM.
But i like there history mostly between 1916-1060s.
when they had a sense of honor but nowadays IRA and such gruops are a bunch of thugs.
And if you dont like than deel with it.

Easy to clean is relative. You buy a gun and you learn how to clean it. Each gun is different, but each one you learn; you get better at. At that point it is easy to clean...
I'm not gonna comment on either of those rifles as I don't really have a lot of time with either one.

Cleaning is one thing, they are both just as time consuming with either an autoloader or lever action. However, a jam type malfuntion is different in the two guns. Think of it this way. Your 10/22 probably wont jam that much, if at all, to begin with. Mostly, I think you are going to get stovepipes, no double feeds or anything. Those are easy to clear by just racking the bolt back. However, i've yet to hear any accounts of proper use stovepipes in manually extracting rifles. Most of the time they are caused by short stroking. However, if you do do this, and you really work the lever good, you are going to crush the spent case and it may require a bit more work than just working the action. When it comes to double feeds, a lever action is always going to jam worse than a autoloader, because (considering you are not weak) you are going to apply a lot more force than a spring is going to. Both an autoloader and a lever action are probably going to need serious work to unclear a double feed, or something similar, but you are going to have the hardest time with the lever action.

12Ga Pump shotgun. 3" mags so you can load everything else and #4 because if you're not going to clean it, you probably can't aim it either.
Just make sure you always work the action like you're mad at it and you'll be fine.

You don't support the IRA, but you choose to have 'ira' as your username? That's a little odd. Perhaps 'irish-american republican' would be more apropriate.
No matter what your opinion of the IRA of the past is, they have long since ceased to be any form of 'freedom fighters'. They are worse than thugs, they bomb, maim and kill innocent men, women and children (not to mention squaddies) and have done for decades. The fact that you 'like their history' up to the 60's conveniently misses out the part where thousands of british citizens died as a result of terrorist action. The troubles in Northern Ireland have accounted for nearly the same number of deaths as the 9/11 attacks. Should I then adopt the username 'Osama B-L' and defend it by saying 'oh, but I like his track record up to the 90s'?
Some of you 'Irish' over the pond need to sort your lives out. Wanting a united Ireland is one thing, but saying you would be happy for that to be acheived by force is another. You are basically condoning terrorist action. You happily sip Guiness with Gerry Adams and admire the IRA, while having little idea what you're talking about. I don't know if this comes from some misguided grudge against the British government of the 1800s, or even Ollie Cromwell, about the treatment of your Irish ancestors (which was dire) several generations ago, or whether you just found out your great-great-great grandma was Irish and you want to be a bit sensational.
Surely you should have noticed that the mp.net members from Ireland don't give a f*** about the IRA, they all dispise them. It's only 'Irish' from over the pond that seem to care. Perhaps it's because you're conveniently removed from the snipers, knee-cappings, drug-dealing, racketeering, punishment beatings, bombs, riots and murders.
With all due respect, find some other way to express your desire for a united Ireland (even though you don't live there) other than through the IRA. Also, learn to spell.
Out.

Nothing wrong with correcting the ignorant and uninformed. Hijacks like that are alright in my book mate.

Seeing as how it's trouble for him to put together a coherent sentance, maybe he was trying to say he doesn't support the British in the area?

Possibly.
I don't want to jump on his back, I have better things to do. I just think that (sometimes) some lads over the pond are a bit 'insular' in terms of their understanding of world events.
The UK is a close ally of the US, and is on great terms with Eire. It seems that the only people who are really fussed about the united Ireland issue are Gerry and his mates and the American-Irish.
The latter group need to realise that it isn't 'cool' to support the IRA, either morally or materially. It is not the choicest of causes to champion.
There is a difference between Irish Republicanism, and Irish Republican terrorism. The fact is that many people agree with the republican cause. i wouldn't mind if NI went and joined Eire. But it's up to the people there to decide, and a lot of them are happy being British.
As for British soldiers being there, it's Britian! They have every right to be there. Those on tour there were originally sent in order to protect the Catholic minority from Loyalist reprisals following IRA attacks.
Anyway, enough of the hijack.
Please let's answer his question.
(BTW, I still don't know FA about the weapon systems! As long as he and his dad aren't shipping them to South Armagh, good luck to him, hope he finds a good one!)

Ease up on the kids guys. He's fifteen and still learning. He asks questions rather than throwing down BS.
So chill out and answer the questions or shut-up.
ira...don't sweat 'em man. Some people on this forum simply like to complain any chance they get.
With that said, both guns are easy to maintain.
A bolt action is probably easier than a semi or lever, but the difference is small.
Both of those a great, classic, plinkers and rodent killers. Proper maintenance of these two rifles will allow you to give them to your sons and grandsons...a ways off, but you get the idea. A good solid rifle that should last your life time.

I agree with durandal - people on this site get too carried away, like they think its their love-child.
If his name is ira so be it - I have no problem
Mate if his name gets to you I'd hate to be doing a piquet in war time with you

Personally I don't care either way. The Eskimo Liberation Army does not offend me.

Hey, it doesn't bother me. I just wanted to give the guy an angle on the situation in NI that he might not have been exposed to before.
I don't lie awake at night thinking about mp.net. Let's get back on track and help this guy with his question.
Endex on the matter. ;)
