I was wondering what kind of nicknames are given in the military personnel. I am not in the military but I always thought that everyone is given a nickname in the military, maybe it's just a stupid presumption on my part but I am curious to what are the nicknames that you find intresting or funny? :D

As far as I know, the only place one gets nicknames that are used by all, is as a pilot in the airforce.
Of course, some people pick up nicknames, but that happens in the everyday life as well..
Only person I can think of from my time in is this guy we called "Tønna" wich means Barrel. He was a Second lt.

My Father, whilst serving in the British Army, earned the nickname 'Gappy'. This was as when he was a teenager he had his front two teeth knocked clean out, and as he couldn't wear his fake ones whilst in the field (etc). So on all his Gulf War (Operation Granby) shield thingies and some other stuff, it's stamped L/Cpl / Cpl Gappy.
Also Redcaps (RMP) are affectionately know as 'Monkeys' I think. There are also a few terms/nicknames (from the Falklands 'era'), which would get you thrown in prison (or at least spend a night in a cell, here in the UK) nowadays!

Gotta love "Topgun" if you like Nicknames: Iceman, Maverick, Goose, it's full of it.

As I understand it, lots of people pick up nicknames in basic training.

One of my buddies in the ARMY picked up the Name **** Lips, he was singing a Blink 182 song with that name while he was asleep in basic. Poor boy.
