Iraqi police killed by car bomb
Eleven Iraqi special police commandos have been killed in a suicide car bombing at a joint US-Iraqi checkpoint in Ramadi, west of Baghdad. At least 14 other people, including two US soldiers, were injured in the attack on Thursday evening on the eastern edge of the town. Ramadi, 110km (68 miles) from Baghdad, is a hotbed of the insurgency.
Checkpoints were set up at entrances to the town last month to stop insurgents entering and carrying out attacks. But the barriers have increasingly become a focus for suicide bombers as other targets become harder to reach. The BBC's Andrew North in Baghdad says the latest attack comes after something of lull in insurgent attacks, but amid great uncertainty over Iraq's political future. Negotiations between the political parties over the shape of the new Iraqi government have dragged on since the national election nearly two months ago.
Tuesday saw Iraqi special forces, backed by US troops, kill dozens of insurgents in a raid on a training camp near the city of Tikrit. A 240-strong Iraqi commando unit was engaged in heavy fighting before seizing the camp, 160km (100 miles) north-west of Baghdad.

REGIMENTAL PRAYER
Almighty, merciful, and loving Father,
you are the one who hears all our prayers and grants our petitions.
We ask you to remember, as we do,
the tremendous sacrifice made by those who went before us.
They have given their lives so that we might live and breathe freely.
We ask you to receive them into your hands.
Father, give us the strength and wisdom to learn from their example,
to uphold freedom and life at home and around the world.
Keep us vigilant as we guard the frontiers of freedom.
Give our leaders the wisdom and the strength to lead well.
Grant all of us courage and confidence.
Be, for all of us, troopers, a wise counsel in keeping peace
and a strong shield for us against our enemies.
Oh heavenly Father, give us the determination
that the peace and freedom won at such a high price be lasting!
Father, hold all of the troopers in the palm of your almighty hand
and protect them in the shadow of your wings.
Amen.

RIP to them all. I will soon be there embedded with them for the next year, and from what I have been told in all my briefings they are some of the most experienced and motivated troops the new Iraqi forces have to offer. Like sponges when it comes to learning. Guess I will see.
A good link here to see some of what is going on with the new focus in the coalitions efforts in the transition of authority:

Well according to some people, being Muslim means that you're completely intolerant of other religions and are only interested in their complete destruction.
