Naah, the program was downsized to 200 vehicles years ago.

BTW, those 72 ambulances are only an option. So basically its 200 Boxers (for now).

The Bundeswehr might receive 529 Boxers: 406 for the Army, 110 for the Central Medical Service, 10 for the "Streitkräftebasis" (Armed Forces Basis), 3 for the Luftwaffe.

Is this pre transformation or past transformation?

They downsized nearly everything. I think the Boxer is more important than the PzH2000...

btw. The Turks copied it, naming their "Boxer" Yavuz, company is Otokar.

Yup, but the recent approval was only for the 200+72 vehicles. Says so on the KMWeg, Rheinmetall and BMVG sites. Who knows wether they´ll buy more when the Fuchs´ tanks become completely obsolete (somewhere from 2015 onwards).

Anyway, at least they´re starting production...

The contenders in the latest stage of the Army's programme for a new force of battlefield armoured vehicles - the Future Rapid Effect System (FRES) - were unveiled by Minister of State for Defence Equipment and Support Lord Drayson today, Tuesday 31 July 2007
The vehicles - Boxer, Piranha and VBCI - were put through their paces at the Bovington training area as part of trials for a FRES Utility Vehicle Variant. The winning design will be developed further to meet the Army's future needs.

The Utility Vehicle design competition is a key element of the FRES acquisition strategy announced in November 2006. The FRES programme will equip the UK Armed Forces with over 3,000 new medium weight armoured vehicles.

This includes reconnaissance, direct fire, and manoeuvre support vehicles. They will provide high levels of protection and will be air-transportable, allowing troops to deploy rapidly around the globe.

Boxer APC for Spain?

KMW manufactures Spain’s Leopard 2E tanks, in partnership with General Dynamics Santa Barbara Sistemas. Its Dingo 2 did not win the competition, placing 3rd in evaluations.

Finally, the third phase will induct a new generation of wheeled armored personnel carriers into Spain’s army. (translated: “in principle, an 8×8 wheel vehicle equipped with interchangeable modules, so that the same platform can be converted in just one hour in a vehicle transporting troops, command center or ambulance.”)

If El Pais is correct, some form of local design and production is also a possibility; indeed, the reality of weapons sales on this level is that some form of local offsets and cooperation are a must. Strong wheeled APC candidates include the ARTEC (Stork/KMW) consortium’s modular Boxer MRAV, and GD MOWAG’s Piranha IV-V, due to these firm’s strong relationships and production arrangements in Spain. Other possibilities include GD Steyr’s Pandur II, Nexter’s VBCI, and Patria’s AMV.

A vehicle that humongous should have some kind of light cannon, 25 or 30mm at least.

It's not like they were trying to design something to squeeze into a C-130 as we attempted with the Stryker.

The A400M has a cargo bay height of 3.85m so that wasn't the limiting factor.

And if they need some firepower --> RMK30
What's with people and their love for the RMK30 in ground combat?
It's inherent ability to cause severe ground fog and by nature less efficient usage of the propellant compared to conventional weapons pretty much restricts its usefulness to applications where reduced weight and low recoil are the predominant requirements - for example in light or unmanned ground vehicles or airborne platforms.

I agree to that Statement, there is no Problem with fitting a normal 30mm autocannon on the Boxer.

The RMK has potential in some special areas where its strenghts surpass its weaknesses. But its not generally superior.

I am generally against super huge 30mm cannons which needs to be integrated in the Boxer modul. Not good for weight and not for blast protection.
Please post me a reliable source for problems with ground fog.
Main problem of the RMK30 seems to be costs.
