Famed attorney Johnnie Cochran dead at 67
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., who became a legal superstar after helping clear O.J. Simpson during a sensational murder trial in which he uttered the famous quote "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit," died Tuesday. He was 67.

Famed attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr. died Tuesday in Los Angeles at the age of 67.
By Michael Stravato, AP

Cochran died of a brain tumor at his home in Los Angeles, his family said.

"Certainly, Johnnie's career will be noted as one marked by 'celebrity' cases and clientele," his family said in a statement. "But he and his family were most proud of the work he did on behalf of those in the community."

I actually met him when he spoke at my college....he was a cool guy, and a lot shorter than I expected.

Damn......

I didn't even know he was ill.

Now who the hell is going to get me acquitted if I ever decide to go on a murderous rampage and leave a trail of evidence back to my house?

Don't get me started on Johnnie Cochran. As far as I'm concerned, he sold his soul to Satan the minute he took OJ's case.

Well, the guy was a damn good lawyer. Reminds me of a quote from a past Pope about Cardinal Richelieu.

If there is a God, the Cardinal de Richelieu will have much to answer for. If not...well, he had a successful life."

I have no idea who he is, but I guess his death is pretty irrelevant. OJ was as guilty as a mother f**ker.

Regardless of how much I despise the obvious guilt of OJ Simpson, his melodramatic defense by Cochran was outstanding.

Everyone is entitled to an able defense..even the blatantly guilty.

My issue is, and always has been(more so now with the Robert Blake acquittal  ) justice at a price.

Guilty go free because they "bought" justice by using their considerable financial resources to buy an overwhelming "shock and awe" defense.

Innocent(some) are imprisoned because they're broke and get stuck with overworked and under-resourced legal aid.

Hopefully I'm proven wrong when Michael Jackson does a 10-20 year moonwalk in Chino.

What's he(Red. Kobe Bryant) thinking going to Colorado with all these white people and not hiring Johnnie Cochran? People say, 'Oh, if you hire Johnnie, you'll look guilty.' Yeah, you may look guilty, but you go home."

I say good riddance. I know thats very disrespectful, but I don't care how good a lawyer he was, he defended a man we all know was guilty, and got him off the hook. I'll never forgive him for that.

O.J. got off because the LAPD screwed up every way possible. :cantbeli:
He was found not guilty in the criminal trial for the murders but he was later found guilty in a civil court liable for their deaths. what a country :cantbeli:

It is funny though no one will mention the tons of good work he did on behalf of ordinary people but the only thing they want to remember
is that he defended OJ simpson.

The Cochran Firm just opened in Memphis, as has already earned a reputation as an ambulance chasing firm. Most firms that are advertised on TV are just firms that are clever enough to intimidate/harrass with a mountain of paperwork and red tape. These are profit-seeking businesses, not humanitarian organizations.

Far from Atticus Finch, if you ask me.

forget that he won many high profile cases of police brutality for ordinary people, represented people trying to get their money back from Enron, forget that he started a domestic abuse center....

all that matters is that he did *gasp* his job at defending OJ...

OJ was found not guilty because of incompetence by the LAPD.

Jury: O.J. is liable

O.J. Simpson is liable for the 1994 death of Ronald Goldman and committed battery against his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson, a civil trial jury ruled February 4, 1997.

The Superior Court jury awarded $8.5 million in compensatory damages to the Goldman family and to Ron Goldman's biological mother.

The jury ruled against Simpson on each of the eight technical questions of liability it was asked to consider. It effectively found Simpson liable for his ex-wife's death, though the Brown family did not seek such a verdict.
